A Month in Review - January

Not bad. Not great. My Chunkster Challenge book took 10 days, otherwise I'd probably have a couple more titles on this month's list. Plus, I finished two yesterday and am about to finish another, so February's list should be pretty decent. Click on the titles to read my review.

The Way the Crow Flies by Anne-Marie MacDonald

Bread Alone by Judith Ryan Hendricks

The Baker's Apprentice by Judith Ryan Hendricks

iPod: The Missing Manual by J.D. Biersdorfer

The Handmaid and the Carpenter by Elizabeth Berg

Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson

Smart Women by Judy Blume

  1. You are off to a great start, and I like the addition of the statistics! Have read the first 3 and enjoyed them all.

  2. I also like your stats. In addition, I admire you for listing your DNFs. Don't know why, but it hurts me to admit when I don't or can't finish a book. Except Atlas Shrugged. I want a prize for tossing that one aside! Like jenclair said, you're off to a great start!

  3. Chunkster Challenges take me at least ten days! And that's when I'm off work! I'm halfway through Crime and Punishment, which I love, but one can't get MANY book read when one is reading HUGE books. However, when they're good, it's so sad to see them come to an end. Hooray for you to read an iPod manual!

  4. Jenclair - I think it'll be nice to look back on the monthly stats at the end of the year and see how well I've done with regard to the variety and quantity of books read.

Bybee - I suppose I feel strongly about listing my DNFs because of the time invested in them. I even go back and forth trying to decide if I should include them in my grand total at the end of the year. Maybe, if I read at least 50 pages. Or a minimum of half the book. Of course that means my numbers from here on out will be much greater than previous years' totals.

Bellezza - Oh, gosh! If I chose Crime and Punishment it'd take me months! I tried to pick Chunksters that aren't too heavy (in the literary sense). I haven't decided on this month's. Since it's a short month, maybe I'll just go with the one with the least number of pages!

  5. I think you're doing well. I'm in a bit of a reading slump right now. Hope I get off dead center, soon.

  6. Booklogged - Sorry to hear you're in a slump. I can usually pull myself out of one by reading one of my favorite mystery/thriller authors like John Sandford, Harlan Coben or Dennis Lehane. Hmmm, that reminds me. I should check and see if P.J. Tracy has anything new in the works. Good lucky getting out of your slump. Maybe just read magazines for a bit until you feel inspired again.
