Stop the Insanity!

Von Maur
Omaha, Nebraska
December 5, 2007
8 lives lost (1 from Lincoln; 1 the cousin of a good friend)
I've shopped at this mall many, many times, as have several of my good friends.
I work in a mall with a Von Maur across the way.
There are simply no words to express my anger and sadness.

Two more shootings

Youth With a Mission
Avarada, Colorado
2 lives lost, 2 injured

What is wrong with this country???

  1. Oh, Les...

It is such a fallen world I can hardly stand it sometimes.

  2. It's all pretty crazy. I was at work when the mall shootings happened and I remember sort of seeing something on the news, but it was hours afterwards before I heard what happened. Many people want it to just be their country, or even just the US, but it is everywhere. This comes on the day when Pickerton was charged with six charges of second degree murder. He is Canada's more recent serial killer, and when I heard the news all I could think was 'why only second degree...' It's a crazy world.

Unfortunately, that question will probably never get answered. It is just so sad.

I have been stressed by all the killings lately. The young man at the Mall was just so deeply troubled. I pray your community can recover.

  5. One word, Les, Gun control. I can't help but think with gun control these killings (and many others) may have been prevented. Our country has truly gone out of control when people think a gun can solve problems. Why are we allowing assault rifles to be sold in this country? I am truly stunned by these murders.

  6. It's hard to think about, isn't it? No easy solutions. Taking forever to get back to normal around here (if things can ever be normal again).

  7. This will be a long comment, and I know I've sent you this before, Les, but I don't think there are better words.

If it were up to me, I'd take away the guns.

  8. *hugs* It isn't just this country; it's the whole world. And it's scary. I can't help thinking that by the time I'm 80 this world will be a very, very different place than it is now---and I don't like where it seems to be going.

  9. Bellezza - Me either.

Kailana - I guess I've been under a rock, as I didn't know anything about Pickerton. As far as "why only second degree" all I can say is I don't understand the justice system - in any country.

    Stephanie - Yes, it is.

Gayla - I feel for all those who have lost someone in these senseless acts of violence. What kind of a Christmas can they possibly have?

Maudeen - I couldn't agree more (about the assault weapons). Why in the world would any civilian need an AK47???

Kookiejar - Can you send me your blog address? I seem to have lost it from my "favorites" list and have tried to locate it via your profile, but it's blocked. You can send it to me via email if you wish.

Nan - Thank you for sharing this again. I agree.

Heather - It is scary. I wish there were some solution, but it doesn't seem likely, does it?

  10. Such an absolutely horrible, unnecessary tragedy. I was so sorry to hear about this happening and was even more shocked that it happened in my home state.

  11. Carl - I know what you mean about it happening in Nebraska. And to think we moved from San Diego to get away from all the madness. Sigh.
