Life is Good - May

It's important to recognize and remember the good things in life, so I've decided to make a point of jotting down my monthly blessings.
So what made me smile (or laugh) last month?
  • Strawberry ice cream before dinner.
  • A hummingbird feeding at one of my potted plants on my deck!
  • Buying my husband a new bike for his birthday.
  • A 60th birthday celebration with friends from California.
  • A 50-mile ride in the countryside (spotted 2 deer, a wild turkey, orioles, cardinals, red-winged blackbirds, goldfinches and a heron).
  • A new bike jersey.
  • A delicious (and simple) new recipe for bolognese.
  • Two excellent nonfiction reads (Little Princes and Take Good Care of the Garden and the Dogs). Reviews forthcoming.
  • Godiva Chocolate.
  • Movie night with a good friend (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).
  • A monthly total of 154 miles ridden on my bike.

  1. Oh Les. I saw the title of this post and thought "But May's not over." And then I panicked and wondered how long this post has been sitting in my GReader. Whew. I'm losing it.

Your May sounds fantastic! I especially like the bit about the 50 mile ride through the country. Or maybe the ice cream before dinner. ;)

    1. The months do fly, though, don't they?! I can't believe it's almost July! I haven't ridden nearly as much this month, as it's been too windy. Today is a bike community ride, though. Heading out to ride 40 miles in a couple of hours. Weather should be just about perfect.

  3. Don't you two look spiffy? I love the bikes. My hubby bought himself a new bike too. He's been riding around our area lately and is really enjoying it.

    Love your daisy header!

    1. I think Rod's enjoying his new bike. We just happened to meet up on our rides. He prefers to go alone and I ride with a friend. She and I had made a loop and were heading in another direction when we saw Rod. Had to stop for a picture!

The daisy picture was taken in Seattle in 2007 when we went cruising with my dad and stepmom. I want to try to grow them here, if the rabbits will allow it. ;)

  4. Oh, I loved Little Princes and Take Good Care of the Garden and the Dogs. Love your daisies! There are almost no blooming things at our new house. I'm going to have to totally start from scratch! You should come down to help me. ;)

    1. I just posted my review for Take Good Care of the Garden and the Dogs. I think it was your blog entry/comment that piqued my interest. Thanks! It was wonderful.

See my note to Kay about the daisies.

    1. Thanks, Staci. This post was a little late this month, but I want to keep up with them for the entire year. It will be fun to read back through them on New Year's Day 2013!

I'm off for a city-wide bike ride in a couple of hours. I love cycling and am happy my hubby is getting out on the trails, too.

  6. First of all, I love those daisies! Aren't they just so cheerful. Am happy Rod will ride with you. I always feel a little nervous when you're on your own. Just helping your mom share the worry. :<)))

    1. See my note to Kay about the daisies. I love 'em, too!

Ah, and see my note to her about riding with Rod. I don't ride alone much anymore though, but I usually ride with a girlfriend since Rod prefers his solo rides. He likes to go at his own leisurely pace and distance. :)
