:: Right Now::

Right now, I am...

:: surprised that my Cosmos were blooming after Friday night's near freezing temps. They didn't bloom all summer, so maybe they prefer the cooler temps. I know I do!

:: pleased with the Vinca, which is drought-tolerant and low-maintenance. I need to remember to plant more of this hardy annual next spring. It doesn't mind being ignored and requires very little water.

:: wondering how my geraniums fared after last night's freeze.

:: so very proud of my daughter, Amy. She has launched a new business in Texas and it couldn't suit her more perfectly. Check out her great website and Facebook page.

:: wishing I was a kid again so I could spend a week at camp. Check out this video for Camp Stevens where my cousin and his wife (the camp's Program Director and Marketing Manager) get to live year-round.

:: looking forward to spending this chilly Sunday curled up with my current book (which, yes, I've been reading since September 1st!!). I'm almost finished, Bellezza! Thanks for being so patient with me. ;)

:: enjoying the gorgeous fall colors in Lincoln. The trees are beautiful!

:: eager to get some firewood and break in our new fire ring.

:: thankful for my iPad, which allows me to catch up on all my favorite blogs via Reeder while walking on my treadmill.

:: ready to peruse Pinterest and make this week's menu. I'm craving soups and stews and have several pinned that I'd like to try. I haven't officially signed up for Trish's Pinterest Challenge for October, but she's inspired me to at least try some of the recipes I've pinned.

:: wondering how my California relatives can afford to drive to work. $5/gallon? Really?

  1. Good stuff! I love Amy's business website, and I liked Curated Closets on FB. :) Dallas businesses have to support each other!

The flowers are beautiful, by the way. I need something that isn't going to look all yuck with the changing weather.

And I'm in the mood for soups and stews, too. I crocked up a pot of potato soup yesterday. Haven't actually tried it yet, but will be jumping on that here shortly.

    1. Thanks for the support, Andi! I hope it's a huge success for her.

The flowers are finished, all but a few geraniums in the front yard. It may be Autumn, but the temps are heading toward 80 today and tomorrow. Crazy weather!

  2. Beautiful photos, Les! Congratulations to Amy on her new business! I checked out her website and "liked" her Facebook page. And your new fire ring looks like a great addition to your lovely yard.

I need to do a search to see if there's something similar to Reeder for my Kindle Fire.

    1. Thanks so much, Janet. I'm excited and hopeful about Amy's new business venture!

The fire ring has yet to me broken in. It's either too hot (heading toward 80 today) or too windy. Soon...

  3. We woke up to cooler temperatures this morning but, as they day's progressed, it's become quite humid.

I put gas in my car the other day for the first time in forever and didn't even pay attention to the price. Quite often, we're the cheapest place in the country, though.

    1. We had rain a few days ago, but while walking yesterday afternoon, we noticed that it felt more like San Diego than Lincoln. 72 and no humidity. Today will be warmer.

  4. Your fire ring looks like the kind of place that's going to get a lot of use! We were in Lincoln today to usher at the playhouse and my parents said they had a hard freeze last night. Did you have anything survive?

    1. I hope we put it to use soon! I have a feeling it's going to be one of those things that only gets used if the weather is just right. Not too hot, not too windy, not raining, or snowing or sleeting. You know, on one of the two perfect days in Nebraska? ;)

As far as that hard freeze, we lost those pretty Cosmos, but my geraniums are still holding on, as are the shrub roses. Won't be long, though. I suppose I should enjoy the warm temps this week...

  5. Your flowers are still gorgeous!!! Loving all of the color that you posted. Is that a winter coat in the one picture?? I am not ready for that but will take flannel shirts right now!! I can't believe the price of gas. It's 4.12 here in Michigan but it depends on what side of the state you live. On the west side it has been as low as 3.73- CRAZY PRICE GOUGING!

    1. Thanks, Staci! The Cosmos are finished for the year, though. I hope they come back next spring, but I doubt it since they're actually annuals.

Nope, not a winter coat, just a heavy jacket. He was wearing a stocking cap and gloves, though! I had my gloves on, as well. And today I'll probably be in shorts and sandals. It's gonna be another summer-like week with temps near 80!

  6. Good luck to Amy with her new business - what a great idea! I also need to check out the Reeder app and sign up for Pin It and Do It again... have already tried a couple of new recipes this month.

    1. Thanks, JoAnn! I'm hoping she has great success, as I know it's something she really enjoys.

I've tried a couple of recipes, but decided not to sign up for the Challenge. My follow-thru isn't so hot. ;)

  7. So now it's my turn to tell you that YOUR babe is gorgeous! I had someone stop me the other day with a business card for "closet editing"--sounds like Amy has hit upon a hot subject.

I'd love to know what lens you used for the first shots. Love them! And I think I've said this one already, but please share your leaves with us! We have a tiny hint of orange after last week's dip in temperatures (you saw us all bundled in that picture at the arboretum), but I'm still yearning for more color.

We are at 3.49...which is down from last month when it was around 3.75. I filled up on Sunday when it was 3.42.

    1. Awww, thanks Trish. I would have to agree. I wish I had her height! 5'10" and all legs. :)

Hmmm, I shoot with an Olympus E410 Digital SLR with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 Zuiko Lenses. I think I was using 40-150 for the Cosmo shots.

If you can believe it, our leaves are even more beautiful this week. I'll try to get out and shoot more pix. The yellows are stunning against the bright blue sky and the reds (on the Burning Bushes) are amazing. I really love this time of year best of all. It's usually very short-lived, but I have a feeling winter is going to drag its feet this year. 80 here tomorrow!

I think your gas is a little bit cheaper than ours. We paid $3.66/gallon the other day.

  8. Did you two build the fire pit?! We never got ours even started this summer. Too tied up with Tom's father. Ah, next year, I hope. I'll be interested in how the smoke goes - if you smell it in the house.
Love the Amy biz. Cannot believe people need help with closets. Wow.
Love the Rod and Annie walk.
Our gas is not quite 4.

    1. Yes! Can you believe it? We are not the DIY type of people, but this seemed like a project we could handle. The ring may not be exactly level, but we figure it's good enough for now. :) We're still waiting for the right time to break it in, as I mentioned above. We've had a lot of dry, windy days, as well as some rain. And we really can't use it during the week, so we're waiting for the perfect weekend. We might have a long wait. ;) I don't know if we'll smell the smoke in the house since the ring is down in the lower level of yard. I'll let you know. :)
