Saturday Snapshot

The cold weather has arrived! Our overnight temps dipped down to the mid-twenties and there was frost on the rooftops and cars. However, my geraniums are still holding on!

This is my first Saturday Snapshot post. For more information, visit Alyce of At Home With Books.

    1. Our weather is typically fickle this time of year. It's currently 61.

  3. It is amazing that your flowers could survive the temperatures, but they look gorgeous!

    1. I think it helps that they are on the south side of the house and still get quite a bit of sunshine. It's currently sunny and 61, so we'll see if I get any new blooms.

  4. This looks like what we have a month ago... overnight frost and still red geraniums. You're right about my tree, yes, the photos were taken in my backyard. It was an ornamental flowering tree called Spring Snow Crabapple Tree. I think. ;)

    1. I don't have any mums in my yard, so the geraniums and shrub rose bushes (also red) are the last blast of color before spring. I love the cheery red, which greets me as I pull into our driveway every afternoon after work. (It's dark in the morning when I leave!).

I have similar photos as your crabapple shots, but mine have squirrels rather than robins. I'll probably post one in my header later this winter.

  5. Lovely geraniums! I'm in Kansas City at my aunt's and we hit 29 this morning. I'm off to the Konza Prairie and Cottonwood Falls tomorrow, then back south after that.

The funny thing is, our flower markets will be filled with geraniums now. It's finally cool enough for them - they shrivel up and die during the heat of the summer.

    1. Hello, Linda! Thanks for popping in. I hope you had a good visit in K.C. We usually get down there once a year or so, as it's only 2 1/2 - 3 hours away.

I'm surprised my geraniums don't shrivel up and die during our hot summers. They don't bloom quite as often, but they seem to survive the dreadful heat.

Our temps are very comfortable today. Sunny and 61. It's gorgeous outside and I just got back from a lovely walk with my dog. If only it could stay like this for another 3-4 months. :)

  6. I'm always impressed by the hardiness of the geranium flower, and so pretty. They look like it's still summer instead of frosty autumn.

    1. Hello, Leslie. Thanks for stopping by with your comment. Geraniums are one of my favorite flowers. They always look so cheerful, especially the reds. I usually add some dark purple lobelia for contrast, but didn't get around to it with these two pots.

    1. Thanks, Diane. They are the last to go. My knockout shrub roses are finished, as is the vinca. We'll see if these geraniums bloom again.

      Be safe today/tomorrow!!
