A flock of pelicans flew right past me as I was taking a photo of the gorgeous view from my walk a week or so ago. I love the way they glide along the waves, but these guys were up pretty high before they dipped down to the water.
So how's everyone doing? Summer is just about here and I'm ready for it! We've had warmer temps (relatively speaking), sunny days, and the occasional overnight shower. I've been working in our yard and am thankful it doesn't get as hot & humid as it did in Nebraska.
My month of reading was a little off with only two books that impressed me. (Interesting that those were both by Elizabeth Strout.) I gave up on a couple of audio books, but have finally settled on one that is holding my attention. Earlier in the week, I blogged about the annual summer reading challenge and I'm excited to dive into the books I selected. You can find that post here.
Books Read (click on the title for my review):
The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout (4/5)
There Was an Old Woman by Andrea Carlisle (3/5)
Instructions for a Heat Wave by Maggie O'Farrell (3/5)
Wellness by Nathan Hill (3/5)
My Name Is Lucy Barton (4/5) - reread
Movies & TV Series:
The Pitt - Great show! My only complaint is that it was hard to keep up with the dialogue, even with the subtitles on.
White Lotus - I just started season three. This is definitely not a show for everyone. I'm not even sure it's for me, but the turn of events in season two was a big surprise, so I've kept watching.
Visitors & Celebrations:
We are getting ready for another RV roadtrip, this time up to Washington. Rod has a book talk scheduled at the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend on June 14th at 3pm. If you're in the area, we hope you'll stop in and say hi!
That is one beautiful picture, Les! I could look at it all day. Bet it was even more gorgeous in person. Tell your Mom that I wish her a very Happy Belated Birthday! Nice pictures there as well. Oh, and tell Rod the same. Hope you guys have a good trip to Port Townsend. It's hot here, but it's June. Pretty humid, but the good part is that we had almost 7 inches of rain in May. It was very much needed. Summer is here!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kay. It sure is a beautiful time of year on the coast. I love those pink flowers (Sea Thrift). I will pass along your birthday greetings to Rod and my mom. Wow! 7" of rain in May? We sure didn't get close to that. We're in our dry period now and may not get much moisture until October or November. Not good.
DeleteHappy birthday to your mom! I'm sorry you only had two books you really enjoyed in May. I hope June will be better. And I look forward to seeing your photos from Washington. I've always wanted to go there.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb. I'll give my mom your birthday wishes. We'll see how my reading goes this month. We have family arriving on Thursday, and then we head out on our trip on Monday. I rarely do much reading on this road trips, so I may only get in two weeks of reading in June. I'm starting with the shortest books in my stacks for Summer Reading. :) I hope you get a chance to get to Washington someday. It's so beautiful! If we couldn't live in Oregon, Washington would be our next choice.
DeleteFantastic photo of the pelicans, you coulkd frame that one. Happy birthday to your mom and I thank you for the birthday wishes you gave me xo
ReplyDeleteI have not had opportunity to watch any of the shows you mentioned but I will check them oout. Hoping to have access to internet by July and that will open many new possibilities. We turned on subtitles for Jack Irish because I can understand most of the dialogue but there are a few characters with heavy accents so that helps. I mention that because you said you used them for The Pitt.
Thanks, Tina. I got lucky to have them fly so close to where I was standing on the bluff! We use subtitles for everything we watch on TV. My mom and my husband are both hard of hearing, and so many of the shows have dialogue that is difficult to understand. Even those that are English! :) Hope you're having a good birthday.
DeleteHow wonderful that your mom turned 92! Happy birthday to her.
ReplyDeleteI walk with a friend most Saturday mornings and we always stop to watch the pelicans.
Helen, she's doing great! To hear her talking about the Dodgers (or any other MLB team) is impressive. Aren't pelicans beautiful birds? We have so many that fly by our ocean paths.
DeleteNot sure if you got my comment here from yesterday? But perhaps I should try again. I just wanted to say Happy belated birthday to Rod & your Mom. I'm glad they are enjoying life at the Cove. And it's amazing how much your mom reads. The White Lotus is indeed crazy and lurid but it did give us some escape from the crazy current life news. I'd say you're reading some high quality authors so I think you had a good month of books. I hope you enjoy your summer reads. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteSusan, thanks for the birthday wishes for Mom & Rod. (No, you previous comment never showed up. Sorry it got lost!) Yes, Mom reads a lot! Between knitting, watching the Dodgers, and reading, she keeps her mind pretty sharp! And yes, White Lotus is lurid... I enjoyed the storylines, but the X-rated stuff made me glad that I watched alone and not with my mom. ;)
DeletePlaying catch-up here tonight... your photo is breath-taking! Definitely one to frame! Belated birthday wished to your mom (she looks great!) and Rod. Glad Elizabeth Strout came through for you in May. She's the best.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you here, JoAnn! You've been missed. :) Yes, Strout is a winner. I'm loving my year of focusing on all of her books.
