Where In the World Is Lesley? (Day Eight)

Itinerary: At anchor in Roche Harbor
Weather: Overcast, changing to rain & fog all day (extended stay due to dense fog); cool 58-60
Entertainment: Monitored marine radio for vessels approaching Roche Harbor in fog.
Entertaining transmissions as one boat blindly led another into the harbor:

"I believe there's a small vessel on my starboard quarter that you'll want to watch for."

"Um, that would be me."

"Oh. OK, thanks, Cap."

"No worries. Just that everything I own is riding on your good navigation"

"Thanks, Cap. I'll buy you a drink when we get in!"

So, this is what you get when you cross a scooter with a lawnmower.

The magic of summer may be something best seen by a child,
but that does not mean that it must inevitably vanish.
Ann Lamott

Grandpa, make it stop raining!

Waiting for the fog to lift.

Summer is a time of stillness,
if only we have the ears to hear it.
And with stillness come broad spaces
and long reaches of time—those expanses of infinity
that both swallow up our own small selves
and bear us out into the grand universe.
Richard Jefferies

Weather: Rain at Reid; fog/overcast (60s), clearing to partially sunny skies

Roche Harbor Historical Information

Lazy morning at anchor in Reid Harbor.

Two men, a dog and a boat.

Raindrops and Canadian Maple Leaf.

It wouldn't be the Pacific Northwest without a little rain.

OK, it can stop now.

Misty crossing to Roche Harbor.

Our Lady of Good Voyage

More of that nautical stuff.

Cleat and Spar

The gardens are absolutely stunning.

View from garden, overlooking Roche Harbor.

To sit quietly, then, is not then an escape from “real life”
but the way back into it.
Nature offers as cure the message that Life is larger,
more expansive, longer lasting than our individual lives.
Walt Whitman

Many non-nautical types attempt humorous boat names.
This one actually succeeded.

So this is what 5:00 a.m looks like.

Breakfast time.

Mine, mine, mine!!

I know he's in there somewhere!

Captain Rod

Whirlpool!

Please tell me there aren't any bears on this island!

Ok, Jolie, we made it up this hill. Now where's the ice cream stand?

Suddenly the nothingness of this leisurely day
opens up to the sky and down to the ocean,
back to ancient writers and forward to eternity.
G.K. Chesterton

Happy boaters.

I could get used to this.

Job? What job?

Nautical Dog (aka Not-A-Poodle)

Cheers!
