2011 Edgar Award Nominees

From Bookreporter.com:

On January 19th, the Mystery Writers of America (MWA) announced the nominees for the 2011 Edgar Allan Poe Awards, marking the 202nd anniversary of his birth. Honoring the best in mystery fiction, nonfiction and television published or produced in 2010, the 2011 Edgar Awards will be presented to the winners at the MWA’s 65th annual Gala Banquet, to be held on April 28th in New York City.

The nominees for the 2011 Edgar Awards are:

BEST NOVEL

CAUGHT by Harlan Coben (Dutton Adult/Penguin)
CROOKED LETTER, CROOKED LETTER by Tom Franklin (William Morrow/HarperCollins)
FAITHFUL PLACE by Tana French (Viking/Penguin)
THE QUEEN OF PATPONG: A Poke Rafferty Thriller by Timothy Hallinan (William Morrow/HarperCollins)
THE LOCK ARTIST by Steve Hamilton (Minotaur/Thomas Dunne Books)
I’D KNOW YOU ANYWHERE by Laura Lippman (William Morrow/HarperCollins)

I've read three of these and thought two were excellent. I will definitely try the others, especially Coben's, as I'm a big fan of his writing. (Click on the titles to read my reviews.)

I've only listed one category here. For a complete list of the nominees, go here.

  1. What kind of a mystery reader am I? I've not read any of these! :)

Well, I do want to read some of them so that counts right.

  2. I haven't read any of these yet, sigh. I always seem to be behind on book award nominees. I really want to read The Faithful Place, and I have an earlier one of Laura Lippman to read. I'm glad to see Steve Hamilton on the list, who I've read some of his earlier books. It's so good to have so many authors to catch up on, but deciding what to read gets to be a challenge, doesn't it? Do you have any particular one you want to see win, out of the ones you've read so far?

  3. Iliana - Well, I've only read three from the entire list! I highly recommend Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter and Faithful Place. The Lippman book was only ok, but I know others loved it, so...

Susan - Faithful Place is by far Tana French's best work yet. And I loved her first two books, so you can see why it was nominated for Best Novel. And, yes, this is the one I'd love to see win.
