A Month in Summary - December 2016

Ah, December. Such a busy month with all the birthday and Christmas festivities, not to mention the extra weekend shifts at work and traveling. But I managed to read a whopping total of four books, which is twice as many as I read in November! I'm not sure January will be much better, since my audio listening had dropped off a bit due to a schedule change at work, but I'm not terribly concerned. I'm spending less time on social media and curling up with my books in the evening, so maybe I'll wind up with more print books read, which may actually result in higher ratings. (My audio ratings seem to dip when I'm not fully engaged or take too long to finish a book.)

So, the books and stats!

You Will Not Have My Hate by Antoine Leiris (borrowed) 4.5/5

Fellside by M.R. Carey (borrowed - audio) 3/5

Her Every Fear by Peter Swanson (own - ARC) 4/5

Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake by Anna Quindlen (own) 4/5

Stats:

Triple Dog Dare Challenge - I really only read one from my shelf, since the Swanson book was a new ARC that I snagged a couple of days before heading off to Oregon for Christmas. The Leiris book is one that I borrowed for the trip, as well. Time to get back to reading more from my shelves!

2 novels
2 nonfiction
2 memoirs
1 thriller
1 sci-fi
2 new-to-me-authors
3 print
1 audio
1 female
3 male
2 borrowed
2 from my stacks

Favorite of the Month: You Will Not Have My Hate by Antoine Leiris

  1. My ratings seem to slip like that too. As a matter of fact, I read a book over the holidays that I think I might have enjoyed more if I'd read it another time.

    1. Kathy, I tend to stick with lackluster audio books a lot longer than I do print books and thus more lower ratings. As long as I can listen while doing other things, I don't mind a ho-hum book.

Hope you're having a good weekend!

Four books is quite good for December. We have birthdays in December too. It's a crazy time, and this year we were planning on our daughter's and granddaughter's move from our home to their own place just a couple of days after Christmas. Thankfully that went smoothly, thanks to my husband and our daughter's boyfriends parents.

    1. Toady, I hope all went smoothly with your daughter's move and that you are enjoying more time to curl up with your books. January tends to be cold & gloomy around here (we're bracing for an ice storm, as I type), which I find very conducive to settling in on the couch to read some longer books than usual. So, my numbers may not improve, but my enjoyment will.

  3. I'll be curious to hear what you think in more detail regarding HER EVERY FEAR. I read it a while back. Though I didn't love it as much as his previous book (A KIND WORTH KILLING), I could definitely see the Hitchcock influence again.

    1. Kay, I've written my review for Her Every Fear, but I'm so rigid about posting my reviews in the order they were read, so it may be a few more weeks. Yesterday, I spent a big chunk of the day writing reviews, so I'm slowly but surely catching up. I think I'm up to September! :) I'm super anxious to read A Kind Worth Killing, after hearing so many good comments about the book. Especially if you think it was better than Her Every Fear. Yay!

    1. Kelly, I need to go through my shelves again. Time for one final purge before we put the house on the market this spring! Eeeek! Good luck with your own books!

  5. Yay for a good reading month! I feel like I need to make sure to plan my computer time better otherwise I end up having very little time for reading and that's no good.

    1. Iliana, it will be interesting to see if my numbers jump drastically once we move to Oregon. Part of me thinks they will, but the other part thinks we'll be busy doing other things. Time will tell.
