Day Two:
Sidney, Nebraska to Rock Springs, Wyoming

Cold departure, but sunny from Laramie to Rock Springs
We were concerned about a possible delay between Cheyenne and Laramie, due to a late spring snow storm, which left Cheyenne with 8 1/2 inches of snow. However, the road, which had been closed for a couple of days, had reopened and was perfectly clear by the time we were ready to leave Sidney. We had a great lunch (clam chowder and a BLT) at Jeffrey's Bistro in Laramie and an excellent coffee just down the street at Night Heron Bookstore. Cute town!
The drive to Rock Springs was beautiful. We saw lots of wind-turbines, which looked pretty against the snowy hillsides. After settling in at our hotel and checking out recommendations on TripAdvisor, we headed out for dinner. We wound up at Bitter Creek Brewing, which had great beer and decent food.

I don't like long road trips much but good coffee and a bookstore stop, well that would make the trip easier for sure :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy a long road trip, as long as we break it up with stops for good food and don't drive more than 350 miles in a single day. The bummer about this trip was driving in separate vehicles. I missed the conversations with my husband and was too distracted keeping an eye on the UHaul and all the semis to pay attention to an audio book.
DeleteIt's hard for me to fathom snow that late in the year. I'll take good beer and okay food any day.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I was pretty surprised there was so much snow so late in the season. Our friends in Colorado saw a lot more than we did! Yep, good beer at the end of a long day is always welcome in my book!

DeleteI'm always amazed at the length of time winter lingers in some places. I always forget that everyone doesn't have a two or three day winter.
ReplyDeleteDeb, this was an exceptionally strange Spring storm. The latest we ever had snow in Nebraska (that I remember) was the first week of May and even that wasn't more than a dusting. I wouldn't want to live anywhere that gets snow 8 months a year!
