Well, this may be the first month in a very long time that I didn't finish a single book! I knew my numbers would be low, since we've been on a road trip for over four weeks, but I thought I'd at least finish the two books that I had started back in May. Vacations have never been my best time for reading.
As with other long road trips, I plan to blog about this vacation, both for your enjoyment as well my personal record (so I can refresh my memory for future trips). We traveled to a lot of familiar locations that we visited in the fall of 2019, but we also found a couple of new gems, which was nice. We spent time with friends and family, which was pretty much the highlight of this trip as everywhere outside of Oregon was too hot to do much in the way of exploring.

The Overstory by Richard Powers - Gave up after reading 150 pages. I only read that far because it's a book club selection and I wanted to give it my best effort.

My ever-so-brilliant husband has signed a contract with his publisher for a new book!
"In the mid-1980s, Marv Creamer, a geography professor from a small-time college in New Jersey, did a crazy thing: He climbed aboard his 35' steel sailboat and sailed around the world. Congratulations to your husband on his contract! Certainly deserves a celebratory drink! Beautiful sunset--glad you are able to enjoy a road trip and appreciate the first travel in a while. :)

DeleteCongratulations to Rod... very exciting! It's so hard to read while you're traveling. I haven't picked up a book since we left FL, and that was a week ago. Definitely a strange feeling, but I know we'll both get back to reading again when things settle down. 28 Summers is a great seasonal read. I see that Hilderbrand is publishing (has published?) a follow-up short story to that novel. Gorgeous header photo!

Thanks for you comment about my header photo. Blogger has messed up the way you can switch your headers and I've had to jump through hoops with a work-around that is very frustrating. The image now fills the space (as it used to), but it's stretched out of proportion. I'm hoping they get it fixed soon or I'll have to stick with this photo for a long time. It's too much of a hassle to change it!
WOW, how wonderful for Rd. Enjoy your travels, you can read when you get home. I loved 28 Summers, but, her newest book Golden Girl was a DNF for me.

DeleteI'll probably pass on Golden Girl. I'm not a huge fan of Hilderbrand's books, but 28 Summers has turned out to be an entertaining audiobook.

DeleteI'll try not to take a full year to blog about this road trip. ;) So many of the spots we visited were repeats, so it may just be a lot of photos.

It can be tough trying to read while vacationing, especially something huge and complex like The Overstory. I can't wait to see your photos from the trip.
ReplyDeleteDeb, I even tried getting sucked into a mystery, but could only read a few pages every night. We'll be home tomorrow, so maybe I'll get back into my groove! I have a ton of photos to cull through, but I'll start posting soon. I have shared a few on Instagram, if you're on there.

I was surprised to finish one book while on break this weekend and I am nearly done with another but only because it's a page-turner and I've abandoned all hope of the story being realistic in any way.
ReplyDeleteWay to go on the book contract!! It sounds very interesting too. I just love your sense of adventure and I really enjoy reading about all your travels. I know the heat put a damper on some of your trip. It was horrendous for us in Palm Springs. I'm used to the heat there but NOT humidity. I was suffocating.

DeleteThat sky was gorgeous, but also a little ominous. We didn't get any rain from it, but a couple of days later, there was a lightning strike, which started a forest fire. :(
