Earlier this week, some of my friends blogged about books that made them laugh out loud. Since 2021 is proving to be just as difficult as 2020, I decided to put together my own list and came up with the following:
Dear Fahrenheit 451 by Annie Spence (nonfiction) - Great on audio!
The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus by Sonya Sones (fiction)
The Exact Same Moon: Fifty Acres and a Family by Jeanne Marie Laskas (nonfiction)
Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson (fiction) - Great on audio!
Bachelor Brothers' Bed & Breakfast by Bill Richardson (fiction)
Fifty Acres and a Poodle by Jeanne Marie Laskas (nonfiction)
I Remember Nothing and Other Reflections by Nora Ephron (nonfiction)
Lottery by Patricia Wood (fiction)
I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron (nonfiction)
Be Frank With Me by Julia Claiborne Johnson (fiction) - Great on audio!
Wife in the North by Judith O'Reilly (nonfiction)
Young Jane Young by Gabrielle Zevin (fiction)

I adored Be Frank with Me; I also liked I Feel Bad about My Neck and Bachelor Brothers' Bed and Breakfast. Now I really would like to read Dear Fahrenheit 451 and The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus. Thanks for all of these fun titles!
ReplyDeleteJenclair, I listened to Dear Fahrenheit and plan to read the print edition. Someday! The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus is a quick read, which I should add to my reread stack. Glad you enjoyed this post!
DeleteThank you for the post, and especially for the links.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Mystica!
DeleteI could have/ should have put Nora Enron in my list. I like that you have two on your list! And I completely forgot about Bachelor Brothers Bed And Breakfast which is a hoot. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Raidergirl3. It's been ages since I read Bachelor Brothers and I've added it to my reread stack. I didn't care for the sequel, though. Ephron's books are also worthy of reading more than once.
DeleteFabulous list! I talked my book club into reading I Feel Bad About My Neck (in April, I think). I'm eagerly looking for humorous books---I've had enough of all this serious reading!---so I've found two at my library I haven't read yet and requested them. You've been talking about Nothing to See Here for a while, and I'm not sure why I haven't gotten that one until now, but I finally did. And I also requested Young Jane Young. I will have to look a little harder for Bachelor Brothers and Lottery.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your list, Les.
Thanks, Deb! I agree about feeling anxious to read lighter books. I just finished another book club selection and it was very heavy and serious. Bah. Hope you can find Bachelor Brothers and Lottery. They are gems!
DeleteGreat post Les, I think we will all use this list as a reference. I read and loved the (2) Nora E books (I miss her) and Nothing to See Here was good as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Diane. I miss Ephron, too...
DeleteThanks, Vicki! You're in for a treat with all of those books you've selected. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteOh goodie. The more laugh-out-loud books right now, the better. That and the new kitty are keeping me happy and entertained. :-) Be Frank With Me and Nothing To See Here are on my all time favorites list! I'm reading Young Jane Young right now (thanks to you) and now you've given me lots more to choose from. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLaurel, there are a lot of winners here. Glad you're having fun with your little kitty!

ReplyDeleteOut of the ones you listed, I've only read Be Frank With Me which I found to be charming. Young Jane Young recently came into my radar and looks like something I would like.
ReplyDeleteTi, Be Frank With Me is charming, isn't it? Hope you enjoy Young Jane Young, too.
