Nonfiction November 2021 Wrap-Up

November is typically a very busy month, what with getting our RV ready for storage, celebrating our anniversary and, of course, Thanksgiving. I didn't expect to read a lot for this challenge, so I'm quite pleased with my results (especially since one of the books I read is over 500 pages).

My favorite books were The Splendid and the Vile and A Homemade Life, both of which earned 5-star ratings.

I gave up on Untamed and Harry Truman's Excellent Adventure.

I'm still listening to Broken Horses and am currently reading I Miss You When I Blink. I plan to continue with nonfiction selections until the end of the year.

This is one of my favorite reading challenges and it was fun to "meet" new bloggers and see what they read during November. I've added dozens of titles to my TBR list, thanks to everyone's great recommendations.

  1. I think that the things I like best about Nonfiction November is the opportunity to reflect upon my nonfiction reading and the new books I add to my wish list.

  2. Nonfiction November is the best! I'm finishing up one more nonfiction book now (Vanderbilt by Anderson Cooper) and will probably turn back to fiction after that. I loved adding all those new titles to my 'to read' list, too. You had a great month!

    1. JoAnn, it really is a great challenge, isn't it?! My sister-in-law read Vanderbilt and said it was very good. I read his previous memoir (The Rainbow Comes and Goes), written with his mom a couple of years ago and thought it was very good. I will probably listen to Save Me the Plums when I finish Broken Horses, then I'll get back to the two Stephen King audios that I paused in order to dive into Nonfiction November. I also have another book by Meg Wizenberg (Delancey) that I snagged at the library, so I'll star that after I Miss You When I Blink. With all the distractions of December events, nonfiction essays are just right for me!

  3. I didn't end up reading nearly as much nonfiction as I had hoped or planned, but I did add about 6 new titles to my TBR list so that's great news for next year's nonfiction reading.

    1. Helen, I didn't expect to read a large number of books since the challenge is only one month and most of the books I chose were fairly long. I'm already looking forward to next year's challenge, but I may try to read more nf in the coming months.

  4. Wow when did you have time to read all that?! Nice work. My husband loved the Churchill book ... which I haven't gotten to yet .... but it seems outstanding. It's awesome you got through it. November is a busy time indeed! Happy December.

    1. Susan, I only read five books and the Adichie book can be read in one sitting. The second collage is of all the books I had hoped to read. Top collage is what I completed. :)

I think you'd enjoy The Splendid and the Vile. So readable and informative!

  5. You have a great NF November with all that was happening. I've only read: Notes on Grief and Save Me the Plums - both very good.

I love your new header - lots of lush greenery - do you see a lot of wildlife out your windows?

    1. I'm pretty pleased with my results, Diane. I'm still looking forward to reading Save Me the Plums and will probably start listening to it when I finish Broken Horses.

Thanks for the compliment on my new header. You would think we'd see a lot of wildlife since we live in a forest, but it is a gated community with lots of homes, so it's not as if we're living out in the middle of nowhere. We see raccoons and the occasional deer. Lots of birds (including eagles) and squirrels/chipmunks. There were sightings of a bear in the woods a few years ago and the other night, someone saw a bob cat wandering around! I'm just happy to see the whales. :)

    2. Well, it looks like a beautiful area, even if you don't get a lot of really warm weather in summer.

  6. You did quite a bit of reading even with all that you had going on. And I'm very glad you did so that you can recommend books to me, lol. BTW, we just started watching Bosch and LOVE it! I remember you mentioning it sometime last year.

    1. Laurel, glad to hear that you're enjoying Bosch. That's one of my favorite shows from last year. I'm looking forward to the spinoff (Bosch: Legacy), which will air sometime in 2022.
