Little Whale Cove

September 2025
Didn't I just post August's summary?! Time truly does seem to speed up the older we get, doesn't it? Since it doesn't really get hot here, summer feels nonexistent (other than the longer days), so when the rainy season arrives, it seems like the year is much shorter. Whatever. Time for another wrap-up.
The first half of the month was spent traveling down and back to the Santa Rosa/Bodega Bay area for my Auntie Sue's memorial. It was nice to spend time with family & friends, as well as a brief visit with our granddaughter. We didn't go on a long road trip this year, so it was good to get out to some of our favorite campgrounds for a couple of weeks.
With that two-week long road trip, and another week of catching up around the house with errands and appointments, it's no wonder I didn't read very many books in September. I also blame my current book which has taken me over two weeks to read. I should have called it quits, but I held out hope that it would improve. Nope. But at this point, I will finish since I'm stubborn. Once I finish that book, I'm on to my fall reading selections (which I shared here).
Books Read (click on the title for my review):
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn (4.5/5)
The Ride of Her Life by Elizabeth Letts (3.5/5)
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (4.5/5)
Movies & TV Series:
Person of Interest (Season One) - We finished the first season and will take a break before watching more of this show. It's good, but each season has close to two dozen episodes!
The Thursday Murder Club - I haven't read any of the books in this series, so I didn't know what to expect from the movie. We thought it was entertaining and worthwhile.
I Am a Noise - I would have liked more about her music and career and less about her therapy and the possibility of sexual abuse by her father. Too much navel-gazing.
Travels:
As mentioned above, we were in Bodega Bay for my aunt's memorial. It was great to spend time with family, as well as some of her friends, whom we had met on previous visits.

Health News:
R.I.P.:
September ended with sad news of the passing of a dear friend and fellow blogger. You can read my post about Nan here.
Be well, friends. 💕
You guys did have a busy month. Nice pictures and especially love the ones with your visit with Shaylyn! Wow! That girl grew up, Les! She's beautiful and I'm so glad you guys got to spend a bit of time with her. Hope you guys have a good upcoming week. That picture of Nan is beautiful, isn't it? Hugs!
ReplyDeleteKay, isn't Shay beautiful?! She looks a lot like her mama. We're excited about our little 3-day getaway. Should have super nice weather, too. Yes, I love that photo of Nan. Hoping to get an email off to you and Teri later this weekend. Hugs!
DeleteWhat a great month you had! I just finished season 6 of Unforgotten and enjoyed it, but it's been a few years since I watched season 1. I need to watch 2-5!
ReplyDeleteI also liked the Thursday Murder Club movie. Such fun. And he's just come out with another book.
Helen, you'll enjoyed those other seasons of Unforgotten. Big surprises ahead! We started Slow Horses (latest season) last night. It's a crazy show!
DeleteI love your month in summary posts! We stopped watching Person of Interest during season two. There are indeed so many episodes. But Mr. Reese isn't hard on the eyes, ha!
ReplyDeleteThank you for recommending Slow Horses, we love the show and now that a new season is back, we are tempted to watch. But we will wait until all the episodes drop so we can binge it.
The book Hail Mary Project was good, I liked that, and am looking forward to the movie. Don't think he can top The Martian but I sure enjoyed that last book.
We tried Unforgotten after season 4 but we also miss Cassie. Maybe I should give the newer seasons another chance.
Glad you saw so many family members at your aunt's memorial. Your granddaughter is a beauty. Also, your tribute to Nan was amazing, She will be missed.
Tina, thanks so much! Yeah, we should have waited for all of the episodes to drop before starting Slow Horses. Now we need to wait an extra week since we'll be out of town for a few days. I hope we can remember what the heck is going on in the show!
DeleteI always enjoy your monthly wrap-up posts, too, and am not sure how this one slipped by me. You've had quite a busy month... and I love all the photos. Shaylyn is beautiful! It's been such fun to watch her grow up over the years. Your tribute to Nan was just lovely.
ReplyDeleteJoAnn, it was a bittersweet month. Great to spend time with family, especially Shaylyn, but sad to say goodbye to my aunt and Nan. Thank you for your sweet comment. Shaylyn radiates joy and goodness.
DeleteLove the pics with your family & relatives & granddaughter! Sympathies about your Aunt & Nan. I'm working through life after my parents. Glad for your thoughts on the TV shows. I did see the Baez movie and could've used more music too. Did you know that Baez and her family lived in Redlands and she went to Redlands High School .... for a time? They used to have a plaque & photo of her in the Appleby's there! lol.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I did not know that Baez lived in Redlands. Funny that there's a photo of her at Applebees! I "met" her at my cousin's wedding many years ago. She was sitting behind me and tapped me on the shoulder and asked if one of the guests in front of me was Kris' (Kristofferson) brother. They have the same eyes, so I guess that's why she knew it might be him. I said yes and turned back around. Then I realized (quite stunned actually) just who I had been talking to!! Joan Baez! I have some photos from the reception somewhere. She was dancing up a storm. :)
