Little Whale Cove
Depoe Bay, Oregon
April 2026
April was a busy month with all sorts of appointments and socializing. With the longer days, I'm getting out to catch the sunset, which is now occurring around 8:30. By early July, it will set around 9:00, which is so great. I love this time of year so much!
I had a pretty nice month of reading with all five books earning four stars. Three of the authors were new to me, and I look forward to reading more by each of them. I also continued with my reading of The Winds of War, which is quite long. And, I spent three weeks reading The Lacuna! I finally finished that door stopper today, so it will go on May's summary.
Books Read (click on the title for my review):
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (4/5)
Culpability by Bruce Holsinger (4/5)
Celestial Lights by Cecile Pin (4/5)
The Bletchley Riddle by Ruta Sepetys and Steve Sheinkin (4/5)
Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton (4/5)
Movies & TV Series:
Maigret (Seasons 1 & 2) - We watched the original series (starring Rowan Atkinson) in early 2025. This updated version is just as good!
Person of Interest (Season 2) - We watched 9 episodes of this second season and called it quits.
Adolescence - 4 part series. Very disturbing, but excellent acting. Can't say I'd recommend it, though.
The Morning Show (Season Four) - Not sure why I keep watching this one either. Brain candy.
Puzzlemania:
Sparks Joy:
I loved watching the return of Artemis II on April 10th. There are lots of great photos here on NASA's website.
Spring Colors in My Neighborhood:
Happy reading!

Gorgeous photos from around the Cove. Great to see the flowers & sunset. Spring looks sprung there! You had some good reads (I liked Raising Hare, & Culpability a bit) & thx for the show reviews. Not sure which series we're watching these days ... we got caught up in the NHL playoffs a bit. The puzzle is quite fetching. I started one at the beach but did not finish in time ... May should be better for us here than April. I hope it's another good month for you all.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan! Our neighborhood (and surrounding areas) always look so pretty in the springtime. Lots of color with azaleas, rhoddies, etc. We started a new series, but it's pretty gritty. Detective Harry Hole, which is based on Jo Nesbo's books. To counter that grim show, I've started watching Ted Lasso. It's light and funny, at least in the first few episodes. Have you watched it? I guess season four is coming out, which is why I decided to finally give it a try.
DeleteAh, yes....your monthly roundup is one I always look forward to. You had some great reading! I'd like to get to The Bletchly Riddle one day.
ReplyDeleteThe Pitt is a show I would love to watch but we don't have that streaming service. Had to laugh about you quitting Person of Interest after 9 episodes as we did the same thing. The first season was good, cool premise, but after the second season it was the same old, same old. We have yet to get to Wallander with Kenneth Branagh on Peacock but maybe we will try after we finish Ted Lasso. Winding up the third season now.
I like the puzzle, I am working on one now with books as photos. The blooms are lovely as well. It's neat to see things from another part of the country. Thank you for your thoughts about blogging. I appreciate it very much.
Thanks, Tina. It was a good month for books! I think you'd like The Bletchley Riddle, especially if you've enjoyed other books about the code breakers during WWII. Yes, Person of Interest was good, but not worth extra seasons! I just started Ted Lasso and am enjoying it a lot! It makes me laugh outloud, which is always nice. Also watching Detective Hole (on Netflix). It's gritty, but pretty good!
DeleteGorgeous, gorgeous pictures, Les! You know how much I love flower pictures. So, so beautiful. Hope your reading goes well this month. Know you guys are planning on a trip also and hope it is relaxing and fun. My in-laws have decided (their decision!) to move to senior living housing and we will be assisting them in all the things that encompass that transition. Lots of work, but happy they made this choice. Doubt I'm going to be around much for several weeks. As I said though, good that they have decided to make the change.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kay! I appreciate your sweet words about my photos. I'm so glad your in-laws have made the decision to move into a senior living community. What a relief for everyone! Good luck with all the details with that move. It will be mentally and physically exhausting, so get out and take time for yourself, too.
DeleteSpring really is such a wonderful time with the longer days, the flowers, and a feeling of optimism.
ReplyDeleteHelen, it's definitely my favorite season. I do love summer, too, though. :)
DeleteI am happy you enjoyed all of the books you read in April. I am imagining how wonderful it is to see the sunsets you are experiencing. The flowers are astonishing! We watched the first episode of ER last night now that we have finished The Pitt.
ReplyDeleteDeb, it was a wonderful month of reading. I'm starting to think about my summer reading list as we edge closer to June... We are very lucky to live where there are such beautiful flowering shrubs and plants. And, of course, all the moss. It grows everywhere! I'm curious about re-watching ER. Gosh, I loved that show. We re-watched all seasons of House, MD a few years ago. It's also very good.
