Christmas Is Love

I bought Christmas Is Love for my daughter 15 years ago. I've always loved the artwork of Joan Walsh Anglund, receiving my first little book (A Friend Is Some Who Likes You) from my best friend back in 1968. I never really gave much thought to the cute little faces in Anglund's books until fairly recently when Amy said, "Ewww! You mean the book with the kids who don't have mouths or noses?!" Well, gosh. I guess I never paid that close attention, but it obviously bothered my daughter. :)

In any case, I like the simple words and sweet pictures. Perfect reading material for a toddler or young child. Or an adult, for that matter.

Christmas is peace and snow so white,
Christmas is home and candles bright.
Christmas is presents under the tree,
Christmas is friends and family.
Christmas is stockings hung in a row,
Christmas is sleighbells across the snow.
Christmas is music in the air,
Christmas is giving everywhere.
Christmas is toys and sugar plums tart,
Christmas is joy in every heart.
Christmas is prayer and one star above,
Christmas is children,
Christmas is love.

Merry Christmas to all my friends and family who visit my blogs!

Merry Christmas to you! Hope you are enjoying the day. Did Santa bring you some books? :)

  8. I have a cross-stitch pattern book that has the cutest pictures of those little kids without faces. There's one for each month. I haven't cross-stitched in years, but I get the patterns out every once in awhile and look at them. Funny, huh?

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Thank-you for your kind wishes.

  9. Nat - Thanks! Hope you had a lovely day, too.

Janet - Perfect! I should add your sentiment to the book. :)

Carl - Nope, no white stuff, but it's supposedly on the way later this week. Thank goodness my daughter flew in from Dallas directly to Omaha rather than via Denver. Phew! Hope you had a lovely day. I plan to catch-up on my blog-reading later this morning.

Literary Feline - Thanks for the Christmas wishes. Isn't it lovely to have some quiet time in the morning? It's my favorite time of the day.

Mom - I wish we could've have been with all of you, too. I love you!

  10. Thanks, Sassymonkey. Hope your celebration was lovely, too.

Iliana - Yep, I got some books. Will post about them later today or tomorrow.

Booklogged - I used to cross-stitch, but haven't in at least a dozen years. And I've only completed ONE project (a sampler). I think I'd rather read than stitch. Too bad I can't do both at the same time.

  14. I love Joan Walsh Anglund, and had completely forgotten about her until I read your post. I, too, had that book "A Friend is..." and now I don't know where it is. But, I was charmed by the pictures, and loved reading the words from this Christmas book. Thanks for sharing!
Do you suppose it's still in print?
I'll have to look because it would be fun to add to my classroom library.

  15. Andi/Sassypants - Thanks. It was pretty nice... better than last year, but not "great." I did get some books that I plan to post about later. Just need to get caught up on some reviews and Top Ten stuff.

Thanks, Heather. I got books so I can't complain!

Thanks, Ex Libris. Hope you had a good one, too.

Bellezza - It must be out of print. I only see "used" copies for sale by third parties on Amazon. Might not hurt to try to get a copy from there, though. If you do, click through from my blog link and you'll help me make a few cents on the referral. I'm now an Amazon Associate and made a whopping $6 bucks so far this quarter. Whoohooo! :)
