I, too, hold that quote in high esteem. For its empowerment. I had an instructional assistant (forgive me if I've already shared this once before) who would say, "Your life is a direct result of the choices you have made." The quotes are similar to me.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading this book to my class. Normally, I don't because it's so well known. But, I was hoping to encourage them to read all through the series again in anticipation of the Deathly Hallows. You know, a Challenge for Elementary School. Which, several of them are doing.
More than any other author I've ever known, Rowling has created readers out of nonreaders.
I've been doing a "re-listen" to all the Harry Potter books on CD in preparation for the new one coming out. I needed to remind myself of all the possibilities in the story plus it has helped to pass the time in waiting for the last one. I'm in the beginning of Book 6 and think I will finish with several weeks left to fret about July 21st.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my favorite, favorite quotes. I believe this. It won't surprise you when I say I'm not a HP book fan. :<)
ReplyDeletejanezfan - You're way ahead of me in the re-reading of these books. I'm just reading one each month. I've jotting down little details to keep things fresh in my mind. I'm amazed I've forgotten so many things about the stories since I first read them.
ReplyDeleteNan - I remember you used to have this quote in a signature line every once in a while. And, no, I'm not surprised you aren't a big fan. But didn't you like the audio books at one point? Maybe just the first or second in the series?
Stephanie - I hope we're not disappointed.
ReplyDeleteBellezza - How wonderful of you to read this to your students. You're so right about these books enticing non-readers. My daughter devoured them and she really isn't much of a reader. Or at least she didn't used to be.
I did listen to the first couple with my son years ago, and Stephen Fry (I got them from amazon.uk) was great. But I didn't want to continue. The rest of my family, however, awaits each new book, and one has already pre-ordered this July's release from our local bookstore.
