Hot Fun In the Summertime!

Hurray! Today is the first day of summer. In honor of my favorite season, I thought I'd post some pics (old and new) that remind of my the good ol' summertime. Enjoy.

"Summer afternoon -
Summer afternoon...

the two most beautiful words in the English language."
-- Henry James

"People take pictures of the Summer,
just in case someone thought they had missed it,
and to prove that it really existed."

-- Ray Davies

"A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining,
the breeze is blowing,
the birds are singing,
and the lawn mower is broken."

-- James Dent

"To see the Summer Sky
Is Poetry, though never in a Book it lie--
True Poems flee --
-- Emily Dickinson

    Hi Lesley.

I don't understand all the fuss....we have summer year round in Southern California! "It's summertime, summertime, sum, sum, sumertime...."

    Love,

  3. That's a wonderful Kinks song you quoted. It's one of the best. Very, very nice pictures. I especially like the dandelions; one past, one present. And of course all those pretty little girls. Who are you with in that photo?

  4. Gorgeous photos. Of course, you realize I hate summer because of the humidity, the heat, the mosquitoes, the heat, the humidity and . . . the heat. Amazing how you make it look fun. ;)

You and Nan are such artists with your cameras. I love those posts best! This is just splendid.

  12. Wonderfull pictures! They surely capture the spirit of summer; I especially like the (bronze?) sun on the wall.

I noticed you are reading a new Anne Rivers Siddons in your sidebar; I have that, too, and I'll begin it as soon as I finish Kavalier and Clay.

I thought of you while kayaking in Wisconsin, and mentioned as such in my post today. We would have so much fun!

  13. Booklogged - Thank you! I had a lot of fun putting the post together. So many pictures to choose from!

Mark - Hey there!! When did you start reading my blog? Such a wonderful surprise to see your teasing comment. :)

    Love you, too, Big Brother!

Nan - Glad you enjoyed the post. The dandelion is one of my favorite pics, too. Those are two of our "Dinner Party" friends.

Bookfool - It's gotten pretty humid here, too. You notice I'm inside puttering around on the computer and NOT weeding, walking, or doing anything that involves being away from the AC! We did get out on the lake yesterday, though. It was hot and humid, but so much fun paddling around!

Camille - Thanks for stopping by! By the way, I perused your blog and it looks like we have the same nightstand! I have ours in a guestroom.

Nat - It's beginning to get pretty steamy around here, too. By the time we head out of town, it will be miserable. It'll be nice to leave it all behind and head to cooler temps in the Pacific Northwest!

    Stephanie - Thank you!

Jenclair - I always seem to be able to capture bees on plants. They must take their sweet time gathering the pollen.

Lotus - Happy to help! Hope you're enjoying your summer thus far.

    Robin - Aw, thanks!

Kay - You're so sweet. And you know what? These are the most fun posts to create. I don't have to worry too much about punctuation and grammar! ;)

Bellezza - YOU'RE BACK!!!! :) Yep, I'm almost finished with Up Island. It feels like I've been reading it forever, but I've enjoyed it so far. And I thought of you yesterday as I was paddling around the lake in my kayak. I'm off to catch up on your blog. I never seem to have the time on the weekends for blog-hopping.
