  1. Happy 4th of July, Les!

Sorry, but I just have to ask...Why is the flag in the first photo upside down?

  7. I got a 4th of July present, my first ever. One of my students fixed me a hot dog and presented it to me. She spent 4 months at the U. of Illinois, so she knew to prepare the hot dog with mustard and pickle relish. Dang, it was good. Every taste bud stood and saluted!

  10. You always cook the perfect food for the occasion. Happy belated Independence Day. Love the photos. We ate Mexican food. The restaurant was not crowded; imagine that. ;)

  11. Joy - No particular reason. It simply came off when the little top piece came unglued (and blew away). I guess when I put the flag back on the stick, I put it on upside down. Either that or I put the whole thing (stick and flag) into the metal holder upside down! Thanks for letting me know so I could correct it (I believe it's a sign of distress - I suppose some could take that to mean something about our government...)

    Kay - Thank you!

Myutopia - Thanks. Hope you had a nice one, too.

Nat - Thanks! It was a great day. Nice and relaxing.

Bellezza - Well, that wasn't really what we had for dinner. I just thought it looked like a good idea for the blog entry for the 4th. We had it a few days earlier. On the 4th we had MEXICAN food! :)

Lotus - They are VERY yummy and quite simple. My kind of recipe. :)

  12. Bybee - Mmmm, sounds like the perfect Chicago-style hot dog. What a thoughtful student.

Heather - Let me know how it turns out. I'm going to make it for my dad and stepmom on our upcoming trip. I love flank steak!

Kirsten - It is! It is!

Bookfool - Ah, did you read my comment to Bellezza?! We had Mexican food, too. Chicken enchiladas, carnitas, rice, beans, guacamole and chips. It was quite tasty. :)

  13. Oh boy...I didn't mean to purposefully point out an oops, Les. I notice stuff like that and I truly was just curious. Ya never know, it could have meant something like "Hi, Aunt Mabel!" or "The coast is clear." LOL ???
