My Oregon Trail (Part Five)

Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Nebraska anymore!

Of all the wonders of nature,
a tree in summer
is perhaps the most remarkable;
with the possible
exception of
a moose singing "Embraceable You" in spats.

~ Woody Allen

Mom and Bill's gorgeous backyard!

I can't think of a lovelier spot to sit and read!

If you tell a joke in the forest,
but nobody laughs, was it a joke?
~ Stephen Wright

It is not so much for its beauty
that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts,
as for that subtle something,
that quality of air that emanates from old trees,
that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.
~ Robert Louis Stevenson

My dream home!

  1. Wow, that is a spectacular back yard! And the rest of the house isn't bad either!

What a gorgeous place! The forest just comes right into the kitchen and family room. Thanks for sharing!

  5. It is beautiful, but I honestly like your house better. :<) Even though I haven't seen it as a whole, the individual rooms have an English cottage cozy feeling that can't be beat. I think I'm not a big fan of that open concept. I like borders, walls, doors.

  6. Andi - I love the backyard. It's just like being in a forest with all the birds chirping and squirrels running about. My only complaint is that it's generally too chilly for me, but that particular day it was actually HOT!

Kay - The view from all the windows is just spectacular. So much green vegetation. Makes me just sigh with contentment.

Nat - My folks have sure enjoyed it! As have their kids and grandchildren. ;)

Heather - Isn't it lovely? I love all the woodwork inside.

Nan - Aw, thanks. But unlike you, I love the open feeling of their house. Obviously the bedrooms and baths all have doors (as does their office, which is right off the living area). It's really just the "great room" that's all open. I love that, especially since it enables you to see all the exterior views from across the house. I love my house, but I wouldn't mind having double the size of each room. They are so very tiny.

    Thank you for sharing!

  8. Lotus - Glad you enjoyed the pictures. I agree -- all those trees are simply lovely. We have quite a few around our house, but nothing like what my mom and Bill have. Is it ok for me to be jealous of my parents? ;)
