Two round-trip tickets to Virginia Beach: $680
6 days' boarding at the doggy spa for Miss Annie: $130
Driving through near-blizzard from Lincoln to Omaha: 1 1/2 hours
One rental car (flat tire included): $75
One Cinnamon Dolce Latte, two Hot Cocoas, five children's books from Barnes & Noble (while waiting for roadside service to change tire!): $25
Listening to our five-year-old granddaughter read to us for the first time: PRICELESS!
This brought a smile to my face. I can only imagine yours! :)
ReplyDeleteLesley, your granddaugther is a doll!!! I especially love seeing her with a book and reading. What a wonderful sight.
ReplyDeleteLove;
Gayla
My, my she is getting so big. Precious pictures. Love the analogy to Mastercard?? Oh, and I also love Cinnamon Dolce Lattes. LOL What was she reading to you?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely priceless! What a lovely post. :)
ReplyDeleteI just want to hug her. What a smile!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how thrilled you were. Priceless indeed! :)
ReplyDeleteShe's so good-looking, but that's no surprise...you and your whole family are, too! And she looks even more beautiful with a book. Smart, too!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter Leah, who is also five, is sounding out words and phonically spelling them all the time. It really is a wonder to see how they learn to read! Thanks for sharing the pictures of your cutie pie!

I have some good news for you, Lesley. You won the drawing for Colleen Gleason's book. Please email me your address at booklogged AT gmail DOT com. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteAnd her proud smile was also priceless!!! I loved this. She sure is growing up fast, isn't she?
ReplyDeleteYay for tiny readers!!!! Priceless indeed. :D
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely worth every penny for a priceless experience! She's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAwww, how neat! I can't believe how tall she is! And, I can empathize with you on the flat tire. I got one on my return trip from Oklahoma -- in my *mother's* car, in middle-of-nowhere, Louisiana.
ReplyDeleteAw, how sweet is this! She is a cutie and a bookworm :)
ReplyDeleteAww...how adorable!! Wonder where she got her love of reading?! :)
ReplyDeleteOh Les! She's so beautiful! And how wonderful to hear her read. I know you are having a fantastic time.
ReplyDeleteJoy - Well, I about started to cry in Barnes & Noble when she started to read the first book! Such an exciting moment.
ReplyDeleteGayla - We sure think she's pretty special. Can't wait to see her again later this spring.
Kay - Glad you enjoyed the M/C analogy. It was fun putting it together. :) You know, I don't really care for those Lattes. I think I prefer Mochas. The book is called Lots of Hearts. It's one of the All Aboard Reading books for beginning readers. She is getting big, isn't she?! Quite tall and lanky.
Camille - Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Nan - We did a lot of hugging! Yep, she has quite a smile, but I absolutely love her eyes. Just like her mommmy's.
Nat - Definitely one of those memory-making visits!
Bybee - Aw, thank you.
Stephanie - Isn't fun to see how excited they get when they figure out a word, then a sentence, then an entire page?! She never got frustrated. Just the opposite. She was having so much fun, she wanted to read more and more! I wish we lived closer so I could take her to B&N once a week. :)
Booklogged - Yay!! I can't wait to read this series.
Maudeen - Yes, she is growing up so fast, but this is such a fun age. Thank goodness for phone calls. I can't wait until she's old enough to start emailing. :)
Andi - I hope this is the start of years and years of reading together. I can just see a long-distance reading club between me and the little princess. :)
Janet - Just like her momma.
Nancy - I know! She got quite tall, but then again, it's been a year and a half since we last saw her in person!
I suppose the flat tire could've been worse. It was a rental, so they took care of it with their roadside service. And, it was snowing/sleeting/raining. Just cold!
Iliana - Pretty much the perfect child, eh? ;)
Katie - Thanks. We're working on the "love of reading." I'll be know as the grandma who always sends books!
Heather - It was a great, albeit bittersweet, visit. Some of her expressions are so much like her mommy's were. She's quite an affectionate little girl. We'll be out there again in another 2 1/2 months.
What joy! She's a beauty, and looks so proud of herself!
ReplyDeleteRobin - Aw, thanks. We're pretty proud of her, too. :) And today I discovered a bunch of beginning reader books I want to send her for Valentine's Day and Easter.
