Mrs. Bale on the First Day of Winter

How many days until summer?!?!

Forecast for Lincoln, Nebraska:

Sunday:

Breezy...colder. Mostly sunny. Areas of blowing snow. Highs around 2. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph. Lowest wind chill values 24 below to 34 below zero in the morning.

Sunday Evening:

Mostly clear. Lows around 11 below. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph decreasing to up to 5 mph after midnight. Wind chill values 17 below to 27 below zero in the evening.

Yep, you read that correctly. A high of 2 (F). On the upside, it'll be mostly sunny. Not that it matters much, as I'll be inside ALL day.

Note to my brother, Mark: No jokes about your weather in San Diego! I don't want to hear how warm it is or the fact that you're running around in shorts. ;)

  1. Want me to hold back mentioning our temps, too?

That is WAY too cold! I've been down in Georgia so long, I don't think I could handle cold like that - no, I KNOW I couldn't handle it. I panic if it gets in the teens here!

Stay in, dress warmly and get lost in a good book!

  4. Well that sounds like home to me, and although I love a beautiful winterwonderland, I don't like extreme cold at all....cold to the bones, I'm shivering with you ;)

  5. Les, I will not tell you how I had to turn on the AIR CONDITIONER yesterday because it was so warm. Shorts yesterday and a high of 49 today. That's our crazy Texas weather.

    Stay warm.

  6. I feel you pain. We here in the Seattle area have been locked in an Arctic freeze for a week and got hammered Saturday night with snow and blizzard type winds.

I guess winter meant to arrive in high fashion this year.

Stay warm--and keep telling yourself it won't last forever.

Oh, dear. Wind chill of 34 below. Seems excessive. Stay in, drink tea, pet cat, and read a book that makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

  8. It's going to be a loooong winter!
Our district has already used three snow days...and that was before the season officially started.

  9. Well......it is hard for me to admit, but it is raining here in San Diego and it is really colddddd, around 52F. No, I am not wearing shorts today! :)

    Go Chargers!

  10. Bookfool - That would be kind of you. :) We have warmed up to a balmy 13, but it's snowing again. Sigh.

Lynne - I agree. I really don't mind winter, but when it gets this cold and icy and snowy, I start to get cranky. I'm ready to move to Arizona.

Kailana - Well, we should really only have 3-4 more months of this. ;)

Lorraine - Yep, and you'd think with my Canadian blood (well, half Canadian), I'd be able to handle these cold temps. We lived in Valleyview, Alberta when I was a little girl and I'm pretty sure it was much colder there than it is here. Not sure what Ottawa was like, but I'm sure it was cold, too. Brr, I'm cold just thinking of it. Time for a warm drink.

Debnance - Oh my gosh! Are you joking?! Maybe Texas isn't all that bad. :) And your weather sounds as fickle as ours. We were near 70 one day and in the teens the following day. Crazy.

Kim - I've been watching the weather in the Seattle area (as well as along the Oregon coast). It sounds pretty miserable and I'm sure it feels even cold with the dampness from the ocean and Sound. You stay warm and safe, too.

Mary - Yep, I think Mother Nature has outdone herself this winter. Perhaps, though, it won't last until April. One can only hope, right?

JoAnn - NOOOOOOO. Don't say that!! I'm hoping spring gets an early start in February or March. If not, I may just book a flight to Tahiti.

Mark - Quit your whining! 52 is not cold! Nebraskans would be in shorts with those temps. :) :)

    Yes, Go Chargers!!
    Love Ya!

  12. Hope you're keeping warm! We still have snow in Victoria, although it's raining a bit today so I fear it may not last much longer.
I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, Les! :)

  13. Mrs. Bale! I love it!!!

You have a wonderful, merry Christmas up there in my home state. I hope you all stay warm and have a marvelous holiday.

  14. Wow! That's -16C. It doesn't EVER get that cold here, let alone a high of that!

It's a bit cooler than normal here - only 75F, but I am sure we will managed!

  15. Nan - Yikes! Now that's cold.

Nat - Hope your flights home aren't delayed (or cancelled!) due to all the nasty weather. Looking forward to your photos.

Carl - Thanks. We had a quiet Christmas and are ready to move on in to 2009. It warmed up to a balmy 61 yesterday. Now it's 28 and snowing again. Guess I won't dig out my shorts and sandals for a few more months yet.

Marg - Yeah, it was pretty cold. Thank goodness it doesn't last too terribly long. Enjoy your lovely weather. :)
