Remember Mary-Chapin Carpenter's hit Passionate Kisses? I heard it on the radio the other day and it made me stop and think about some of the things that make me happy.
It's important to recognize and remember the good things in life, so I've decided to make a point of jotting down my weekly blessings. I was going to label this post "Passionate Kisses," but the potential for questionable Google search hits made me re-evaluate that choice.
So what made me smile last week?
- A comfortable bed that won't hurt my back. We finally got a new mattress set. Our old bed was almost 14 years old. No more back aches!
- Jeans that fit! I love my new jeans from Eddie Bauer. They're so soft and comfy; I splurged and bought a couple of pairs in each color (dark rinse, black, gray and regular denim blue).
- 4-day weekend! Exactly what I needed after the stress of a very busy holiday season.
- New work schedule that gives me a 3-day weekend every week!
- Catching up on book reviews.
- Listening to cds on my new Bose.
- Starting the year off with 3 great books.
- A 68-degree-day in January in Lincoln, Nebraska. Amazing.
- Tickets booked to a tropical paradise.
- And, yes. Passionate kisses.
Passionate Kisses
Is it too much to ask
I want a comfortable bed that won't hurt my back
Food to fill me up
And warm clothes and all that stuff
Shouldn't I have this
Shouldn't I have this
Shouldn't I have all of this, and
Passionate kisses
Passionate kisses, whoa oh oh
Passionate kisses from you
Is it too much to demand
I want a full house and a rock and roll band
Pens that won't run out of ink
And cool quiet and time to think
Shouldn't I have this
Shouldn't I have this
Shouldn't I have all of this, and
Passionate kisses
Passionate kisses, whoa oh oh
Passionate kisses from you
Do I want too much
Am I going overboard to want that touch
I shout it out to the night
"Give me what I deserve, 'cause it's my right"
Shouldn't I have this (shouldn't I)
Shouldn't I have this (shouldn't I)
Shouldn't I have all of this, and
Passionate kisses
Passionate kisses, whoa oh oh
Passionate kisses from you
Passionate kisses
Passionate kisses, whoa oh oh
Passionate kisses from you

I'm so jealous of you finding a pair of jeans that fit and are comfortable...it is one of the most frustrating clothing items for me...right next to swimsuits :p
ReplyDeleteWell, this was an absolutely delightful post! I loved it. And such a good idea. It's always good to think about the things in our lives that make us happy; plus it is a nice way for readers to get to know you! Good choice on the name thing. :<)
ReplyDeleteI think they say ten years max on a mattress.
I'm glad you like your Bose. I've begun to think I'm the only person in the world who listens to music that way rather than an iPod. :<) I love my Bose, and we now have it hooked up to the tv as well.
Great about the three day weekend!!
I love that song!!! Actually, I love nearly every song she sings :) Thanks for sharing the things that brought you joy this week, Les - I think it is important to 'count our blessings' - and I am thrilled you are now having 3 day weekends every week - I do that too, and it is wonderful!! xo
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! In a hectic world people often stop to think about the good things.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post, Les! I loved it. Also love your new header photo. So perfect.
ReplyDeleteYou know, Mary Chapin Carpenter has a look of you or you have a look of her. Whatever. She makes me think of you. Love the song. Love the list. Love the fact that you'll have 3-day weekends.
As soon as I read the top part I started singing her song...loved it!! So many good things this week!!
ReplyDeleteI remember that song - it's a good one! Glad to hear life is good for you, life is good on my end, too. =)
ReplyDeleteNow if only my work schedule would give me a 3 day weekend every week!
Which tropical paradise? Curious.
ReplyDeleteI love Passionate Kisses. We have the album with that song around her, somewhere.
I say "we have this or that somewhere" a lot. There was a time when I was hyper-organized, believe it or not. I miss those days.
Les,
ReplyDeleteYou know you DO favor Mary Chapin Carpenter, lucky you!
Do you remember the review that you did of Unbroken? I left a comment on there (I think you did it in June or July of 2011) Anyway, I just did a post about Louie Zamperini. I love both of those books so much, it's hard to write about them!
Life is so much better with a positive attitude!
ReplyDeleteI love Mary Chapin-Carpenter. Saw her in concert a couple of times and Passionate Kisses is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteps - I'm also a long time fan of Eddie Bauer jeans.
Peppermint - I've been frustrated, too, but when I find a style that fits, I buy multiple pairs in a variety of colors. And, ahem, I also buy two sizes, just in case. ;) Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteNan - I'm so glad you enjoyed the post. We'll see if I can keep it up every week. Maybe just once a month. We'll see.
I love my Bose. I had one of the older models (a tower, I believe), in almond, and it held up for well over a decade (probably closer to 15 years!), but it was beginning to have problems and we didn't want to spend the money to have it fixed. I love the smaller model and the remote!
I feel the same as you. I listen to cds more than I use my iPod and Nano (I use the latter for my audio books). I enjoy reading the liner notes and listening to one cd from start to finish over the course of a few days. I'm a Luddite at heart. :)
Wendy - She's in my Top Ten when it comes to musicians. I saw her at a Bluegrass Festival in Telluride in 1996 (?) and at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, probably around 1999, or so. Love her!
Kailana - I'm trying to focus more on the good and less on the bad. Life is too short to be grumpy. ;)
Kay - Aw, thanks Kay. So glad you enjoyed it.
You aren't the first to tell me I look a bit like MCC. Wish I could play the guitar and sing like her!
Staci - It's not difficult to find the good once you start looking. Time to start another list.
Megan - Glad to hear life is good for you, too. I'm making a mental list for another post.
Nancy - Kauai! Can.Not.Wait!!
There was a time when I was hyper-organized, too. I could tell you where everything I owned was located. Now, not so much. I'm lucky if I can find my husband and dog! ;)
Kay G. - Heading over to read your post about Louie Zamperini. Thanks for stopping by.
Kathy - It is, isn't it?
SuziQ - I have several favorites. Might have to make a list. :)
I think these are the first jeans I've ever bought from Eddie Bauer, but I've owned a lot of their Blakely-fit khakis. Very comfy!
Oh, uber cool! I've never been to Kauai, but it was my dad's favorite (he was kind of nutty about Hawaii). Are you going to ask Pat if she'll sail over for a visit?
ReplyDeleteNancy - We've been in touch, so we'll see. She has a friend on Kauai that she could stay with and then she and I could get together for lunch. I would love to meet her! I can't remember...did you two get a chance to meet?
