Mailbox Monday

It feels as though it's been ages since I've participated in the Monday Mailbox meme. Looking back through my archives, I discover it's been well over two years! I certainly could've posted at least once a month, as I continue to get unsolicited ARCs, as well as those I snag at work. I'm in desperate need of another bookcase...

These books didn't all arrive this past week, but I'm fairly certain they weren't all here a month ago! At the rate I'm going (reading a measly four or five books a month), I'll never make a dent in the stacks in my office/guest room.

The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker

Salvation of a Saint by Keigo Higashino

Jasmine Nights by Julia Gregson

The Prophet by Michael Koryta

Midwinter Blood by Mons Kallentoft

Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay

The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman

The Roots of the Olive Tree by Courtney Miller Santo

The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin

Live by Night by Dennis Lehane

and the most highly anticipated book in the stack...

Love Anthony by Lisa Genova!!!!

Any recommendations as to which I should start after I finish Love Anthony? I've read mixed reviews for both The Age of Miracles and Jasmine Nights, so I'll keep them in my stack for the time being. I plan to read Higashino's new mystery for Bellezza's Japanese Literature Challenge, despite the fact that I was not terribly impressed with The Devotion of Suspect X.

Mailbox Monday is the place for bloggers to share the books that arrived in their homes last week. For more Mailbox Monday posts, visit Jennifer of Mrs. Q: Book Addict.

  2. Quite a selection! I haven't read any of these, so I'm no help at all. :) I abandoned The Devotion of Suspect X--although I'm almost embarrassed to admit it given how many people speak highly of it.

    1. Don't be embarrassed. I wasn't all that impressed, either. I wonder if I'll even try Salvation of a Saint. It'd be nice to read something I think I'll enjoy for the Japanese Lit Challenge. I may be setting myself up for failure if I try this one.

  3. That whole stack looks good to me! I'm jealous of the Lehane book.

    1. I like Lehane's Kenzie/Gennaro series, but haven't tried his more recent stand-alone. It will be interesting to see if this new one pulls me in...

Here's the blurb from his website:

Combining edgy suspense and the vivid period detail that made The Given Day a smashing success, award-winning, bestselling author Dennis Lehane delivers a masterful epic of Prohibition-era America told through the story of a charismatic young gangster on his rise through the glitz and the violence of the Roaring 20s.

  5. So do I, Mary!

I see you bought the audio version of Little Princes last month. I just reviewed it last week and have to say it's one of the best books I've listened to in a long time. You're in for a treat!

    1. Thanks! I hope I can find a little more time for reading later this year. Summer evenings (after a 9-hour day at work) are pretty full and I'm usually ready to go to sleep by 9:00!

    1. I plan to start reading Love Anthony in a couple of weeks. I'm still on my first book for the Paris Challenge. Sigh. I'm such a slow reader. No, I take that back. I just have so much else on my plate. Oh, well. It's not a race, right?

  9. Lucky you! That's quite a loot! Enjoy!

Love, Anthony didn't come my way, but you can be sure that I'll get my hands on it when it comes out!

As for your following read, whichever one sparks excitement or intrigue. :) I'm currently reading The Prophet and really enjoying it. I miss football, so it's filling a void.

I have the ARC of ... Suspect X. I'm going to try and not consider that one anymore. I like the title, and it looks like it's less lengthy than some others on my TBR shelves. I have to say that that is a draw.

    Happy reading, Les!
