    1. It was gorgeous in the mountains. Not a big fan of the desert, though. Thank goodness for blue skies, white clouds and adobe. :)

  5. Great photos! They remind me of our last trip to Santa Fe... I couldn't stop taking pictures of mailboxes, doors, and windows.

    1. The turquoise shots were down by the Railyard. We saw some cute little houses/bungalows in that part of town.

    1. New Mexico is pretty brown, so the bright colors help! ;)

    1. Truth be told, there are parts that are absolutely gorgeous, but sadly, I didn't fall in love. I prefer the Pacific Northwest with its mountains and water. The desert can be beautiful, but I don't think I could live there.

    2. Well, of course when it comes to mountains and water...and woods...it's like picking between chocolate and ice cream. How can one say which one prefers? I love it all, but I think what I like best about the Southwest is the mood I find there.

I walked down the Grand Canyon, alone, when I was 11. Now there are big signs every where saying, "Don't do this in one day!" But, in 1972 no one seemed to care, and it's always been a big badge of courage for me. Something to rely on as knowing I did, even when it became hard to walk all the way back up. Twelve hours later. :)

    3. Oh, I think it's easy for me to say which I prefer. I love the mountains and water and woods. The desert? Not so much. :)

Wow! You walked down the GC alone? When you were 11? That's quite an accomplishment! I've never been and I would like to see it someday. It's on my list along with Bryce & Zion.

  8. It's the colors I so love! I wonder if you've ever read Tomie dePaola's adult book about some of his Christmases - Christmas Remembered. One of them is in NM. I think you'd love this book. I wrote about it four years ago,

and you even left a comment. :<) A nice treat to give yourself this coming Christmas season.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation, Nan. I remember your review and will have to seek it out at the store. Speaking of books about NM, I had planned to re-read Willa Cather's Death Comes for the Archbishop, but ran out of time. It's still one I'd like to re-read, especially now that I've visited the locations she wrote about.

  9. *cries* I know I'm so late commenting. I LOVE these pictures, though, and that blue is just gorgeous. I'm glad you had a good trip but reading through some of the comments here I agree with you on New Mexico. I think that Arizona does a beautiful desert, but New Mexico not as much. I do love the mountains around Red River, though, but Taos has never been our cup of tea (at least the valley...not the actual village in the mountains).

    1. Thank you for your nice comment, Trish. I'm glad you enjoyed these photos of NM. Yes, that blue sky is amazing. So crystal clear! Rod and I enjoyed our drive up to Red River. I thought of you guys when we walked through town.
