Diamond Lake, Crater Lake and Chiloquin, OR

Diamond Lake to Chiloquin, Oregon
Distance: 107 miles (which includes side trips to Beckie's Cafe and Crater Lake)
Campground: Kla-Mo-Ya Casino
Cost per Night: FREE
Duration: 1 night
Weather: Warm and sunny

After our lunch at Beckie's Cafe, we started back down Highway 62 toward Crater Lake, with plans to head south to Chiloquin for the night. The sun was shining and the smoke wasn't nearly as awful as it was in the morning. Since it was on our way, we decided to go back into the park to see if the visibility had improved.

Interesting that this sign isn't as nice as the one at the north entrance
Wonder if this is a temporary fixture.

We went to the Rim Village and walked out to see what we could see.
 Hooray!! Blue water!!

It may not be the most clear sky, but I was thrilled to see the water!

There's Wizard Island!
 (And my handsome husband.)

I have a thing for old dead trees.

I know. I know. Enough of the pictures of the island.

One more with the pretty yellow flowers. :)

Ok, another with the pretty ripples on the lake.

The turquoise water at the edge of the lake was stunning.
I can't image what it looks like when you're right down at the water's edge!

If you look closely, you can see the Sinnott Memorial Observation Station
That's where I was when I took the picture of the turquoise shoreline.

The guests must have an amazing view of the lake from their rooms!

The lodge is nice, but not as large or as impressive
as those at Lake Crescent and Lake Quinault.

Satisfied with our detour back to Crater Lake, it was time to head south to Chiloquin. We got settled in at the Kla-Mo-Ya Casino for a free night of boondocking. There were several RVs parked in the lot with us, but it was fairly quiet. The only noise was from the semis coming and going in the Travel Center across the driveway from the casino, but it died down after dark.

It was a fun day in a beautiful part of Oregon. I highly recommend seeing Crater Lake and the surrounding area. I look forward to a return visit and some camping on the Rogue River.

  1. So glad you went back! Yes, those pictures were not crystal clear, but I think it added to the atmosphere. Very fall-ish. Thanks for sharing them!
