Called It Quits

All four of these novels came highly recommended by several respected bloggers. I was thrilled to find them at the library earlier in the month and was eager to settle in for some great reading. Sadly, each and every one of these books failed to capture my attention. I even set one aside to try again later, but once I resumed reading it a week later, it continued to disappoint. Back to the library they went. On the plus side, I didn't waste any money. #lovemylibrary

Isn't it funny how different we all are? I loved THE LIDO. I found it very touching and sentimental.

    Happy Reading!

    1. Kathy, a lot of readers loved it, so you should still give it a try.

  3. Oh no Les, so sorry since 2 of these were books that I loved. I'm guessing more bad timing perhaps? I find that happens to me sometimes as well.

  4. I’m so sad Traveling Cat Chronicles didn’t work out for you. I loved it...

    1. I was disappointed, too, Meredith. I know how much you loved it. Maybe if it had been about a dog...

  5. I loved The Village School, (and the rest of the Miss Read series) but then I had been a teacher and so enjoyed the truth of our shared experiences as well as the humor of it. This post reminds me of that little song from Sesame Street about “where you put your eyes”, meaning that we all see things from a different perspective!

  6. Oh, too bad... I hate when that happens! As you know, I loved An Elderly Lady. Think I was in just the right mood for that kind of humor. Sorry to hear about Miss Read, too. I've been wanting to give those books a try.

    1. JoAnn, I may try these again someday. It could have been that I was impatient to get to A Brutal Telling by Louise Penny, which showed up shortly after I got this stack of books.

  7. I gave up on The Traveling Cat Chronicles, too. So glad I'm not the only one who didn't "get" it.

    1. Lisa, as I told Meredith, I may have enjoyed it had it been about a dog instead of a cat. ;)

  8. Love libraries! You are right, at least one way of looking at these books is that you didn't spend money on them. I have a couple of these on my TBR list so we'll see what I think.

    1. Iliana, I love libraries, too! However, I haven't taken many books from my own shelves for many weeks and I want to get back to some of those books that I've been eager to read. I hope you have better luck with some of these books.
