We woke up to super cold temps (27 degrees!) and the furnace would not ignite, so we got our Mr. Heater Buddy going and that took the chill off, but it doesn't really get the RV as warm as the furnace. I had a relaxing morning while Rod looked at a few YouTube videos to see if he could fix the furnace, but sadly, no luck. Could be an altitude issue, so we'll wait and see if we have the same problem when we're at a lower altitude.
I walked into town (such as it is) and passed a cute coffee place (Latte Da), but had already had enough caffeine for the day, so I wandered over to the Mono Lake Committee Information Center and Bookstore, which carries some lovely jewelry, pottery and artwork, as well as a nice selection of books.

I would map out the bookstores and libraries along the way. Of course you probably do that. I can't imagine those cold temps without good heat. Hope the problem gets solved.
ReplyDeleteDeb, I try to visit bookstores while on the road, but often times we're out in "the wilderness" at various state and national parks and there aren't that many to explore.
DeleteWe took the RV in to have the furnace checked out when we got back from this trip and they couldn't find anything wrong. Our upcoming trip will be during warmer weather, so we may not have to deal with it until next fall. Frustrating, but we do now own an electric portable heater, so we can run that all night if need be (and if we have electricity at our site).
Oh brrrr!!! We have a Mr. Buddy heater, too, for when we're dry camping...but you're right, it definitely doesn't keep our rig as warm as the furnace and forced air. I hope it's an easy fix. Glad to know that Latte Da is still there!
ReplyDeleteLaurel, Mr. Buddy was a lifesaver, but I'm glad we also have a new electric heater for those cold nights when we have shore power. Not sure what the problem is with our furnace at high altitudes, but it continued to be an issue on this trip. We had it checked out when we got home and the techs couldn't find any problem.
DeleteYes, Latte Da is still there, but it was far too late in the day for anymore coffee. Maybe next time!
We spent a couple of nights in Lee Vining on our birding trip there last September (a couple of weeks before your visit). It's a fascinating place. We also went up to the ghost town of Bodie, and into several places at higher altitude.

Mae, I'll be it's a great area for birding! We thought about going to Bodie, but we don't tow a car with our RV and we didn't want to drive it (27 feet!) on the road into Bodie. Maybe another time.
