California Road Trip 2019 - Dunsmuir (Part III)

Thursday, October 17, 2019
Dunsmuir, CA
Railroad Park Resort

What a great day! Our neighbors (Shannon and Lou) invited us to join them for a day trip to McCloud and Mount Shasta, which we eagerly accepted. The rain held off, so it was a perfect day to check out the McCloud River and all three waterfalls. The fall colors were stunning along the river and I couldn't help but take dozens of photos.

After checking out Fowler Campground for future reference, we headed into Mount Shasta for lunch at Sparky's Landing, which was very good. Not ready to return to our campground, we decided to wander around town and check out the headwaters at Big Springs. When we did get back to the RV park, we decided to have a drink out on the deck behind the the Railroad Park Resort restaurant & bar. We finished off the day with dinner and more drinks around the campfire, while Rod entertained us with his guitar. It was a perfect day!

    1. Kay, it was one of the most beautiful places we visited on this particular trip. I'm so glad we were able to see all of the waterfalls and meet such wonderful people at our campground.

  2. The McCloud River is one of our favorite quick getaways from our home in Ashland. We've spent many happy weekends camping there with friends. Your photos of the falls are beautiful!

    1. Deb, if & when we return, it will definitely be during the fall months. Such a gorgeous time of year with all the leaves turning. Summer months, on the other hand, would be far too hot, I'm afraid.
