I Go Down to the Shore
I go down to the shore in the morning
and depending on the hour the waves
are rolling in or moving out,
and I say, oh, I am miserable,
what shall--
what should I do? And the sea says
in its lovely voice:
Excuse me, I have work to do.
~ Mary Oliver
Thanks, Vicki. It was taken from the path in our neighborhood on a gorgeous day a few years ago. I also love this poem, especially the line, "in its lovely voice."
ReplyDeleteI love this poem and the picture. The Oregon coast is so stunning!
ReplyDeleteJen, I probably have over a hundred photos of this exact view! It's always changing and so beautiful.
DeleteHaha! Exactly. A friend yesterday was saying that he sees God as being similar to the sea in this poem.
ReplyDeleteDeb, good comparison!
DeleteBeautiful, and one of my favorites. Mary Oliver says so much in such a few lines.
ReplyDeleteLaurel, I love the simplicity of her poetry.
DeleteLove the poem and the photograph!
ReplyDeleteIliana, I certainly have plenty of photos to choose from! ;)
