Poem du Jour - A Thousand Mornings

A Thousand Mornings

All night my heart makes its way

however it can over the rough ground

of uncertainties, but only until night

meets and then is overwhelmed by

morning, the light deepening, the

wind easing and just waiting, as I

too wait (and when have I ever been

disappointed?) for redbird to sing.

  1. Mary Oliver is so very, very wonderful. I feel I've come to appreciate the world around me even more after spending so much of 2020 reading her work.

    1. Thanks, Laurel. I assume you mean the yellow daisies? It's an old photo I shot when we lived in Nebraska, but I've always loved it. The pink/peach peonies in my header are quite lovely, but stinking Blogger has changed the html code for headers and I had to find a work-around so the image would fill the entire space. Unfortunately, the image still doesn't look right, but I'm hoping if enough users complain, they'll fix the code. So irritating!

  3. That's an ideal poem for this time, as the pandemic grinds to a halt (hopefully) and we begin to do things we once considered routine.

    1. Thanks so much, Iliana. I took that photo many years ago, but it remains a favorite.
