Thundersnow!

The More It Snows by A.A. Milne

The more it snows ~~
tiddely pom,
The more it goes ~~
tiddely pom,
The more it goes ~~
tiddely pom
On snowing ~~

And nobody knows~~
tiddely pom ,
How cold my toes ~~
tiddely pom,
Are growing.

Yep, we got more snow yesterday. It started falling around 6 pm and was absolutely gorgeous. Huge, heavy wet flakes. As we were standing in the kitchen getting things ready for dinner, we heard a long, low rumbling. Thundersnow! Poor Frankie didn't know what to make of that. He's never heard thunder until now.

It's still cloudy and very windy this morning, but the trees look absolutely gorgeous draped in their long white snowy robes. I doubt we got more than 3-4" (so much for the blizzard warning), but it rained all day before the snow arrived, so I suspect the roads are treacherous. We'll stay inside where it's cozy and, yes, I'll get those book reviews written that I promised last week.

We've been promised the possibility of thundersnow at least twice this winter, but so far no luck. I haven't encountered it since college. I was studying for final exams, just before Christmas, and really freaked out that it could lightning and thunder during a snowstorm. I've been waiting for a repeat ever since.

We got the snow and freezing rain yesterday. It was a wild ride, but it's above freezing this morning so it's starting to melt. It's also raining, which should help wash everything away and leave us with a muddy mess.

    Oh joy!

  2. The weatherman said we might have some during the past snowstorm, but we didn't. I think we've experienced it just once, but have never heard the name, thundersnow. I love that! I still occasionally listen to my kids' tapes of Winnie-the-Pooh, and that song is such fun. Wonderful blog entry, Les.

  3. We got 6 inches here in mid-town Omaha. It is so incredibly beautiful. Why couldn't it have looked like this on Christmas morning?

  4. When I heard the Chicago weather man say it was thundering while snowing yesterday, I just thought he was on an acid trip. Now, it's confirmed!

  6. Lisa - I remember the first time I heard/saw thundersnow. We'd just moved to Nebraska from San Diego and we couldn't get over all the weather fluctuations. There have been a few instances where it's been hot and sunny in the morning and freezing and snowy by afternoon. Everyone talks about the weather here all the time. Not in San Diego. What would they say? Gee, it's sunny and 72. Again.

We're in for freezing rain tonight, followed by more snow in the next few days. My poor car has never been so filthy.

Nan - I love the song, too. Had it in my head all day on Sunday! Glad you enjoyed the blog entry. I thought you might, Mrs. Bale. ;)

Kookiejar - I heard Omaha got a bit more than us. I'm not complaining! It sure was pretty, but I'm really tired of the mess at this point. Bring on spring!

Bellezza - You crack me up! Yes, thundersnow truly exists. So does the green flash over the ocean at sunset (although my husband thinks I'm crazy when I mention this). It was even mentioned in Middlesex, so it must be true!

Heather - Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the post (and I'm glad someone else loves to use exclamation points as much as I do!).
