In spite of three low ratings, I feel as if I had a pretty decent month, especially when you consider I was fairly busy with a long-weekend getaway to Missouri, fall yard work, Thanksgiving, Christmas decorating, and the arrival of our new dog, Miss Annie.

Hi Les,
ReplyDeleteI gathered that you like 'growing up stories' about girls such as Book Thief, To kill a mockingbird. Have you ever read TULLY by Paullina Simons?
http://www.amazon.com/Tully-Paullina-Simons/dp/0006490018/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196677976&sr=1-1
It is just great. I can also recommend SUMMER SISTERS by Judy Blume http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Sisters-Judy-Blume/dp/0440243750/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196678014&sr=1-1
Continue reading! I'll stop by from time to time.
MiMi
You got a dog!!! She's beautiful and I'm so happy that you didn't just give up on pets after your last experience. :)
ReplyDeleteYou did much better than I did, November was a particularly slow reading month...thanks mostly to work dominating my every waking thought. I'm excited audits are now over and I can return to more normal reading patterns.
ReplyDeleteI just noticed the cover of Consequences in your sidebar and went dashing off to read your review. What a gorgeous cover! I guess it would be hard to live up to, but darn. I was so hoping it would be terrific, just because I liked the cover so much. I can see why you grabbed a copy.
ReplyDeleteMindful Mimi - You're right. I do enjoy coming-of-age stories. Thanks for the recommendations. I read Summer Sisters several years ago and enjoyed it quite well. Haven't read (or even heard of) Tully, so I'll pop over to Amazon and take a peek.
ReplyDeleteBookfool - She's a great dog. We've had her for 2 weeks now and are quite happy with our decision to adopt her.
Have you read anything by Penelope Lively? You're right. It is a great cover. I only wish the story was half as good, but I'm willing try another by her.
You know I am so going to do this for 2008, don't you? Keep a reader's journal/monthly analysis of what I read. You inspire me! (In more ways than one. But, I don't think I'll ever be a good gardener. I'll just stick to reading, cooking and photography.)
ReplyDeleteBellezza - There are some lovely book journals out there, if you decide to use a formal book to do this. I've had book journals and I've had blank notebooks, all to keep track of the specifics of the books I read. Then I review them here on my blog. I found a great blank book at Barnes & Noble last week that I decide to buy for my 2008 journal. The cover has a picture of a man holding a rake, surrounded by shelves and shelves of books, pages scattered about him on the floor. It's a cartoon entitled "Autumn" by Benoit, I believe.
ReplyDeleteAs far as being an inspiration, you give me too much credit for being a great gardener. I was pretty much a lazy gardener this past year! I love pretty flowers, but don't have a passion to go out and create a gorgeous garden. It's just too danged hot and humid here to really have fun with it.
Carl - Thanks for the comment. I apologize for not getting it approved in a more timely fashion. I think Blogger is messing with my comments, as I never got yours in my in-box.
ReplyDeleteI hope work settles down a bit for you and that you can start reading for pleasure again. You've had quite a few busy months, but it's nice to see you blogging more regularly again. Enjoy the holiday season! Hope you get some of those cookies this year. :)
