A Month In Review - November

In spite of three low ratings, I feel as if I had a pretty decent month, especially when you consider I was fairly busy with a long-weekend getaway to Missouri, fall yard work, Thanksgiving, Christmas decorating, and the arrival of our new dog, Miss Annie.

  1. Hi Les,
I gathered that you like 'growing up stories' about girls such as Book Thief, To kill a mockingbird. Have you ever read TULLY by Paullina Simons?
It is just great. I can also recommend SUMMER SISTERS by Judy Blume
Continue reading! I'll stop by from time to time.

  2. You got a dog!!! She's beautiful and I'm so happy that you didn't just give up on pets after your last experience. :)

  3. You did much better than I did, November was a particularly slow reading month...thanks mostly to work dominating my every waking thought. I'm excited audits are now over and I can return to more normal reading patterns.

  4. I just noticed the cover of Consequences in your sidebar and went dashing off to read your review. What a gorgeous cover! I guess it would be hard to live up to, but darn. I was so hoping it would be terrific, just because I liked the cover so much. I can see why you grabbed a copy.

  5. Mindful Mimi - You're right. I do enjoy coming-of-age stories. Thanks for the recommendations. I read Summer Sisters several years ago and enjoyed it quite well. Haven't read (or even heard of) Tully, so I'll pop over to Amazon and take a peek.

Bookfool - She's a great dog. We've had her for 2 weeks now and are quite happy with our decision to adopt her.

Have you read anything by Penelope Lively? You're right. It is a great cover. I only wish the story was half as good, but I'm willing try another by her.

  6. You know I am so going to do this for 2008, don't you? Keep a reader's journal/monthly analysis of what I read. You inspire me! (In more ways than one. But, I don't think I'll ever be a good gardener. I'll just stick to reading, cooking and photography.)

  7. Bellezza - There are some lovely book journals out there, if you decide to use a formal book to do this. I've had book journals and I've had blank notebooks, all to keep track of the specifics of the books I read. Then I review them here on my blog. I found a great blank book at Barnes & Noble last week that I decide to buy for my 2008 journal. The cover has a picture of a man holding a rake, surrounded by shelves and shelves of books, pages scattered about him on the floor. It's a cartoon entitled "Autumn" by Benoit, I believe.

As far as being an inspiration, you give me too much credit for being a great gardener. I was pretty much a lazy gardener this past year! I love pretty flowers, but don't have a passion to go out and create a gorgeous garden. It's just too danged hot and humid here to really have fun with it.

  8. Carl - Thanks for the comment. I apologize for not getting it approved in a more timely fashion. I think Blogger is messing with my comments, as I never got yours in my in-box.

I hope work settles down a bit for you and that you can start reading for pleasure again. You've had quite a few busy months, but it's nice to see you blogging more regularly again. Enjoy the holiday season! Hope you get some of those cookies this year. :)
