Library Loot is an event hosted by Eva at A Striped Armchair and Marg at Reading Adventures.
In an effort to post here more regularly, I decided to start participating in Library Loot. We'll see how it goes. With all the books I have stacked up around the house, I really shouldn't be visiting the library. However, my face-to-face book group has chosen The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for our August selection and I decided to borrow a copy rather than add to my toppling stacks. Of course, while I was there, I snagged a few more books that I've been keeping my eye on at work. Now to see if I actually read them. Here's what I found:
And now that I have it, I realize I didn't really want to read this one, but rather Comfort Food. I didn't care too much for Friday Night Knittinig Club, so back to the library (unread) this will go.
I'm hopeful that this will be as good as Colony!
I've heard about this one here and there, but really don't know if it's my cuppa tea. We'll see.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
I started this a couple of days ago, but so far it hasn't grabbed my attention. I may have to give the audio a try.
How about you? Do you use your library? Have any recommendations?

Welcome to Library Loot!
ReplyDeleteIt took a little while for me to get used to the narration in Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, but by the end I was hooked, and I enjoyed the follow up book as well.
We're doing THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO in my mystery group for August. I've been looking forward to reading it. Interestingly, one of my other book group members (the one that reads "regular" book) brought up this one and told those of us that read mysteries that it was a great one. She said it was a little slow starting but then it grabbed her. Hope it will do the same for me.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read that particular Anne Rivers Siddons book, but I think it would be hard to top COLONY!
I work in a library so it's hard not to go home with a stack every night. Recently I've checked out and read gods behaving badly, School of Essential Ingredients and The year of Fog. All have been good.
ReplyDeleteI've been on a library ban this summer just so I can make a dent in my stacks. Sort of doesn't work though as I keep buying books! haha...
ReplyDeleteI hope the Dragon book picks up for you. I really loved it but it was different from what I expected.
I love my library and even when I say I'm only going to get 2 books, I end up with 8!!! Your loot looks pretty good..hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMarg - Thanks for the warm welcome! :) And thank you for your thoughts on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Knowing now that it has a slow start, I've picked it back up and will try to read it for book club.
ReplyDeleteKay - Helloooooo!!!!!! So good to see your comment here. (I owe you an email...) I'm glad to hear that in spite of the slow beginning, TGWTDT is a winner for so many. I've started reading it again.
So far, I've yet to find anything by Siddons that is as good, if not better than Colony.
I'll be writing soon.
Melanie - And I work in a bookstore, so I know the feeling, although I don't buy books every day. ;) Didn't you just love The School of Essential Ingredients? I read it earlier this year and thought it was so good. I want to read The Year of Fog and her new one (title escapes me at the moment). I'll have to see what Gods Behaving Badly is about. Thanks for your comment!
Iliana - I should be on an ARC ban this year. I need to do something about all the stacks of books in this house! It's really gotten out of control. Thanks for your input on Dragon. I think I'll get back into it, especially now that I've heard it takes a little while to get hooked. Just need to devote a chunk of time to reading it before Aug. 11th since it's one of those library books that can't be renewed.
Staci - I try to stay away from the stacks and limit myself to the new releases. I always feel like I've struck gold when I find something new that I've been eyeing at work. Hard to resist such temptation! :)
I just read about Keeping the House and it sounds good. And I love the cover so much. I'll be interested to see what you think. Someone else read it - Tara maybe? And yes, I do use two libraries, and very occasionally a third. What a gift to readers. I'm just the opposite. I do a quick check of the new shelves, and head right back to find the older books I love. :<)
ReplyDeleteI haven't had the chance to read any of these but some of them are on my TBR list. Hope you enjoy your finds :)
ReplyDeleteI brought home a few books from the library, but they haven't made it out of my trunk because of the rain. Maybe tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteOur book club read Keeping the House several months ago and I enjoyed it. It's one of those "story within a story" novels, which can be either intriguing or confusing, but I thought Ms. Baker handled the transitions from one story to the other quite well.
ReplyDeleteThe highlight of reading it, though, was getting a phone call from the author during our book club meeting to discuss it!
Nan - Keeping the House does sound good, doesn't it? I had a feeling you'd like the cover, too. :) Let's see. It's due for renewal on Tuesday and I have stacks of other books I really should read first. Hmmm, wonder what will happen. I can get it for 3 more weeks...
ReplyDeleteSamantha.1020 - Well, I hope I get to more than just one on this list! Thanks for stopping by with your comment.
Nancy - I haven't done much better. They're all still sitting on my nightstand. I am making progress in TGWTDT (Larsson), though. I need to get off the computer and go read!
Janet - Glad to hear that Keeping House is a winner. I enjoy novels with a story within a story and I'm glad to hear the author handled this device well. How fun to have the author call in to participate in your meeting! That reminds me - I should post pics from my last book club meeting. We "reviewed" Julie & Julie. With a cooking session!
Les, I'd be happy to send you my copy of Keeping the House if you'd like it. Otherwise it's just going to be heading to Half Price Books.
ReplyDeleteI've just put The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on hold at the library because I keep seeing it on everyone's blog. Probably, I'll feel like you if you're not that into it. We like (dislike) the same things. Colony, especially.
ReplyDeleteJanet - That would be wonderful! Thank you!! I'll email you my snail mail address.
ReplyDeleteBellezza - I keep hoping it will improve, but at this point I'm only liking it. Nothing great. Certainly not as good as In the Woods or The Likeness!
