A Month in Summary - August '09

August was full of dinner parties, trips to the Farmer's Market, a movie night with book club friends, hanging out at the pool, and a fantastic trip to Virginia Beach. Once again, not much reading going on! I did have a couple of winners, though.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson (4/5)

House & Home by Kathleen McCleary (2/5)

South of Broad by Pat Conroy (4.5/5)

  1. Love the photos, Les. Is that a tattoo on your arm?

I'm a little afraid of the Stieg Larsson books. They sound too murdery to me, but everyone seems to like them.

  2. I'm dying to read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Well, not literally, but I do want to open its covers soon.

I'm with Bookfool: is that a tattoo on your shoulder? You daring girl, you!

  4. I am going to be reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in October! I have South of Broad, too, that I really want to read. I just have to find time for everything!

  5. Nancy - Thanks! I was quite pleased with some of those photos. If you get a chance, scroll down a ways and check out the ones of Shay & Rod with the Kindle. Pretty cute.

Yes and no. It's a henna tat. Only lasted about 2 weeks. It gave me an idea of what I may want to get if and when I ever get brave enough!

You know, the Larsson book was very good, but if you don't like Silence of the Lambs type of thrillers, you may not like this one. I'm not sure if I'll read the sequels. Rod tried #2 and couldn't get interested. Too convoluted.

Bellezza - Do you need a copy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? I have a mass market that I can send out to you, if you like. LMK.

Oh, I wish I were daring. Maybe when I come out to visit you, we can go get one together. :)

Staci - It was a wonderful trip. A little on the hot & muggy side, but we had the ocean & pool to keep us comfortable. And ice cream. :)

Kailana - If Bellezza doesn't want my copy, do you need one?? I know I won't read it again, so I'm more than happy to send it off to you if you don't already have one.

South of Broad was just so wonderful. I keep thinking about it and the cast of characters. I could read it again, if only I had more time (says she as she glances over at the huge stack of books on top of her desk!!).

  7. I wish I'd known you had a copy to give; unfortunately for me I already bought one, so it looks like Kailana can have yours. Lucky girl!

If we were going to get a tattoo, what would we get? No, I could never do something so permanent on my skin. I have to change my lipstick every other day. ;)

  8. Iliana - Thanks! It was a fun month. I'm already missin' the beach!

Bellezza - You'll have to let me know what you think of it. I can't decide if I want to go on and read the sequels.

I have no idea what I'd want if I got a tattoo. I think that's my problem. I can't decide what I'd want for the next 50 years! Something with the sun, though, I'm pretty sure.
