Teaser Tuesday/Mudbound
When I think of the farm, I think of mud. Limning my husband's fingernails and encrusting the children's knees and hair. Sucking at my feet like a greedy newborn on the breast. Marching in boot-shaped patches across the plank floors of the house. There was no defeating it. The mud coated everything. I dreamed in brown.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Oh, doesn't that sound awful - the mud I mean! Yuck.
ReplyDeleteI see you are reading Little Heathens. I wonder what you'll think. I loved it, and Tom wasn't as thrilled. I was sure he'd love all the old time stuff, but though he thought it okay, he sure didn't adore it as I did. I find myself wanting to read it again. Have you visited:

You can see her on tv last year:

What a woman!!
Very interesting teaser!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been on the fence about this one but that passage definitely makes me want to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteJoAnn - I hope to get my review posted this weekend. Suffice it to say, it's a fantastic book!!
ReplyDeleteDiane - You won't be disappointed. It's a gem.
Nan - Yep, I can't imagine a life on a farm with all that mud!
I'm almost finished with Little Heathens. I may be in Tom's camp on this one. Thanks for the links. I'll pass it on to my book club members. We're discussing the book on the 15th.
Staci - The book is one of my favorites so far this year. Not that I've read a lot, but it was so good!
Lisa - Climb down and get a copy! It's a winner.
The part I most remember about this book is the mother's love for her son (that's no surprise, I'm sure). It was a very powerful book.
ReplyDeleteBellezza - I had forgotten you'd read this book! Had I been more thorough with my search, I would have included a quote from your review on my post!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a very powerful book. And I agree with your assessment about the mother's love for her son.
Do you know we both quoted the same passage in our reviews? :)
Bellezza - Ooops, I'm wrong. I was going to use that quote, but changed my mind! Used a different one instead. Sorry for the confusion. :)
