Nonfiction November 2022

I love this reading challenge just as much as the 20 Books of Summer event. I've been saving several of my nonfiction books specifically for this challenge and I can't wait to dive in. I cheated a little bit by reading Sailing by Starlight before the official start of the challenge, but I'm sure you all understand why. 😊

Have you read any of these books? Which do you recommend?

  1. Hello! Happy NF November. I've read three and always love Ann Patchett. I didn't get as much out of Wintering as I expected, hope it hits all the right notes for you.

    1. Care, I've read several novels by Patchett and am looking forward to these two nonfiction titles. I hear that they're both outstanding. I hope I have a better reaction to Wintering than you did. I'll probably extend that reading into December.

    1. Tina, I really cheated on the challenge though, since I started & finished Sailing by Starlight before today. ;) Hope the Colwin book is good. I really enjoyed Home Cooking.

  3. I've read several of these. I recommend all of the ones I've read: This is the Story of a Marriage; These Precious Days; Save Me the Plums; In the Garden of the Beasts; and Wintering. Thanks to you, I will look for How We Live is How We Die; More Home Cooking; and Jacob's Room is full of books. I hope you have a fantastic Nonfiction November.

    1. Thanks for your recommendations, Deb. I'll probably start listening to Save Me the Plums first since it was on my list for last year's challenge!

You convinced me to join in this challenge with one of your earlier comments…I thought I rarely read nonfiction, but when I looked over my shelves and notes, I realize that isn’t true! I have especially enjoyed Into Thin Air, and books by Bill Bryson…as well as many other titles. Even that lovely little book you sent for my birthday once, with the little creature and the plant while the woman was convalescing. I can’t remember the name, but I loved it. Anyway, I have culled a pile, so it will be fun to share this challenge with you and the other participants.

    2. I'm not sure why, but I figured it was you, Meredith! Probably the mention of the book I sent to you. It was The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating, right? I wonder why I thought to send it to you, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have fun with this challenge!

    3. That’s the title! I could have gotten up and checked my shelf, but that would require walking on this awful foot!😜 It is such a lovely book, I feel like reading it again!

  5. Great picks! I have read both of the Ann Patchett books and I like her nonfiction more than her fiction. While I liked both books - I probably thought the Story of a Happy Marriage was better though the cancer story in Precious Days killed me. The Erik Larson book is my favorite one of all his -- though there are a lot of long German names in this one. But the true story of the Nazis and the diplomat's daughter is Unreal. I hope to read Rod's *book* and the Delia Ephron one, which sounds bittersweet. Good reading ahead! Enjoy.

    1. Susan, I've enjoyed a few of Patchett's novels, but am eager to try these nonfiction titles, which I've heard great things about. Yes, good reading ahead! Now to make time to curl up with all of these books.

  6. I haven't read any of these, but eagerly look forward to hearing what you think. My dad thought A Woman of No Importance was good.

    1. Helen, I just started These Precious Days by Patchett and have a feeling it will be a winner. I also finished Rod's book, which I loved. I learned so much as I read and wish I had taken notes to share. Maybe after a second reading.

    1. Iliana, I've done pretty well with the challenge, but after a month of nonfiction, I'm starting to crave a big chunky novel!
