Kay, it was fairly close, but I was using my "good" camera with a telephoto/zoom lens (and hiding out of sight). Looking back, though, I was probably too close, but he seemed to be focused on the fish in the river.
Wow what a healthy looking bear! Great pix. Love to see these shots. Did you see the bear with salmon? Many fish i think are dead by end of Sept. Hmm. We were near Kokanee Lake in BC in mid-Sept. 2022 and saw the salmon return to spawn and die. tragic but true. but I think some manage stay on into October.
Susan, he was obviously getting in hibernation mode! These photos were taken on September 27th and yes, the river was full of salmon. Thankfully, the bears (there were three sightings) were quite intent on catching those and ignoring me.
Wonderful photos! Zoom lenses are amazing ... it looks like you were on top of him. The iPhone is great but this is the one think it can't do. best... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thanks so much, Mae! I have a Google Pixel, which takes great photos, but definitely not as good as my Canon with the zoom lens. I was able to get these photos from a safe distance. Last week I posted some of the eagles we saw on our trip. Scroll down to find those, if you like.
Once again, fantastic photos! I hope that bear never knew you were there :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tina. He might have known we were there, but he was too busy catching salmon to pay us any attention.
DeleteOK, that bear is really close. Glad he didn't want to 'meet' you and wanted to do some 'fishing' - ha!

DeleteOh my! I hope that you were using a camera with a zoom! lol Great photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb. I was most definitely using my "good" camera with a zoom lens. :)
