I really loved The Tender Bar. I almost read it all in one evening. I liked it because of the memories I have of going to the local tavern with my dad when I was growing up. It was such a masculine environment. All the farmers would be there on a rainy day for a beer. There was that swirl of beer, cigarette smoke and grownup talk. It was a heady experience.
