I finished Need to Know by Karen Cleveland (my print book) and News of the World by Paulette Jiles (my audio book) and have started The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett. I'm really enjoying this light novella, especially having recently watched two seasons of The Crown. I can hear Claire Foy's voice in my head as I read the Queen's lines and find myself chuckling at some of her thoughts and comments. This is an older book, published in 2007, and one which is certain to entertain bibliophiles, as well as Anglophiles. Now to settle on a new audio book.
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (#IMWAYR) is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It’s a place to meet up and share what you have been, are, and about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment, and er… add to that ever-growing TBR pile! This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at Book Date.

The books are new to me but I did love watching The Crown, can't wait for the next season. So I am guessing The Uncommon Reader is our Queen E, I'd read it! I see the Joe Biden book in your sidebar - want to listen to that one too!
ReplyDeleteKathryn - Yes, The Uncommon Reader is Queen E, but you have to keep reminding yourself that it's fiction. :) Biden's book was good, but I would recommend the print edition over audio. Just my two cents, but he isn't the best reader. Too gravely of a voice and at times it was difficult to hear what he was saying.
DeleteI loved The Uncommon Reader when I read it several years ago.
ReplyDeleteKathy - I want to get a copy of this book for rereading. It was absolutely delightful!
DeleteI remember really liking The Uncommon Reader. I loved the Crown!
ReplyDeleteCandace - The Uncommon Reader is such an enjoyable book and it was hard not to think of it as nonfiction.
DeleteThe Crown is soooo good! Can't wait for Season Three!
Oh that is a good one. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteIliana - I've seen it on the shelves at the bookstore for several years, but never got around to reading it. I'm glad I read it after watching The Crown. The Queen's voice was very easy to imagine, having done so.
DeleteLooks like a good book. My post this week.
ReplyDeletePussreboots - It's a winner!
DeleteThe Uncommon Reader was good when I read it. Hope you enjoy it, too!
ReplyDeleteKelly - I loved The Uncommon Reader and hope to buy a copy for re-reading!

ReplyDeleteKym - I think The Uncommon Reader can speak to anyone who loves books. Maybe it will inspire you to watch The Crown. :) Thanks so much for visiting my blog.

ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
AJ - I thoroughly enjoyed the book and plan to read it again someday.
DeleteI read The Uncommon Reader and it is really an uncommon book! loved it.
ReplyDeleteMystica - I loved The Uncommon Reader, too! Thanks so much for stopping by with your comment.
DeleteThe Uncommon Reader sounds like a great book. I've been working on assembling a list of books (both fiction and non-fiction) about the royal family for a blog feature I want to do. I think this novella will fit in really well with the other books I've assembled. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteAngela - The Uncommon Reader is a book for book lovers! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to your list of royal family type books!
DeleteWhat did you think of Need to Know? Were you as surprised by the ending as I was?
ReplyDeleteMeredith - I was surprised by part of the ending (suspected one, but not the other), but overall I didn't care for the book. The main character drove me crazy. Too much repetitious inner dialogue.
DeleteLoved "The Uncommon Reader." Very witty. And answers the question about why the Queen always has that big purse on her arm!
ReplyDeleteLucysky - Ah! The large purse would come in handy, especially if she's reading Proust! Loved the book and the witty writing. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI loved this book!
ReplyDeleteRobin - My mom and I both loved The Uncommon Reader! I hope Rod gets to it before it's due back at the library. Actually, I plan to buy a copy so he'll be able to read it either way.
