Escondido, California
Mark & Ana's Hacienda
Our parking spot on the side of the road worked out very nicely. There wasn't much road noise except for the occasional car zipping by as people headed off to work. We slept well and enjoyed a relaxing morning, catching up on emails and social media, before heading out to have lunch with some good friends.

We've been friends for almost 40 years!
So good to catch up with this dear friend of mine!
Getting a little warm, but not too terrible.
Rod worked on a writing project while I sat outside reading and listening to Ana practicing her cello. Once Mark got home from work, we had a drink then headed out to dinner at Sammy's Woodfired Pizza in San Marcos. I almost always take pictures of our food when we are traveling, but failed to do so on this particular day. I must have been too busy catching up!
Mark & Ana's peaceful balcony.
Gorgeous views of the mountains (and their orchard)
The following morning we woke up fairly early and were surprised that it was so cold. 45 degrees! And, we discovered we had ants in the RV! Not just a few, either. Ugh. Time to get some spray and bait traps.
We puttered around until it was time to head down to El Cajon to visit more family. Ana and her grandson joined us and we had a wonderful timing catching up with my stepbrother and his wife. Their grandson was also there, so the two little boys had a great time together while we visited.
Mark & Ana's grandson, Declan.
Cousins!
Declan with Neal and Val's grandson Caleb.
Declan and his Opa.
This little guy really stole my heart!
Those eyes!
Watching his Oma fix dinner.
Sweet little boy who looks so much like his daddy did at that age!
Such a great visit, but far too short. Not only did I fail to take pictures of our delicious meals, but I didn't get any of Neal & Val. Next time!
Those temperatures look fabulous to me. Visits with family are the best!
ReplyDeleteKathy, the weather was really nice while we were in San Diego. We just weren't expecting it to be quite that chilly in the early morning hours, but our RV is pretty cozy once we turn the furnace up. Yes, visits with family and friends is what this whole trip was about.
DeleteWhat a great road trip you are having!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenclair. This was actually last year's trip! We're heading back out in a few weeks, though, and I wanted to get caught up on all these posts before I have a new set of photos to share. :)
DeleteSuch lovely pics Les. You guys have such fun escapades.
ReplyDeleteDiane, thanks for your nice words. We do have a lot of fun and this was such a memorable trip. I can't wait to head out again in a few weeks. We leave the day after Labor Day and I'm still in the planning stages!
DeleteSuch lovely pictures of you and your friends. I can't wait to see the adventures you undertake this year!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb. We won't be traveling quite so far this fall (just OR & CA), but we'll be gone for almost two months again. I'm hoping to finish this set of travel posts before we leave in a few weeks. Wish me luck! :)
DeleteSpending time with family and friends in our travels is one of the great joys of this lifestyle, isn't it? Looks like you had a wonderful visit! Good luck catching up on your posts before you head out. :-)
ReplyDeleteLaurel, it will be so nice to head back down to San Diego next month. We get to enjoy a much longer visit this year, as well as explore new areas on our way back north. We plan to take our regular route down 101, but when we head north, we're going to take 395. Should be gorgeous with all the fall colors!
DeleteWhat a fun time (minus the ants of course!). Love the view from the balcony. I think I'd be there all day! haha..
ReplyDeleteIliana, isn't that a great view?! The sunsets are gorgeous over the mountains and it's very peaceful. I can wait to return in a few weeks for another visit. Hopefully, it won't be to hot and I can do without a repeat visit by those ants!
