I think a lot of us have been doing more thinking, pondering and praying this past week. I hope we can see some significant changes in the near future!
Isn't that the truth, Jenclair! My granddaughter and nieces give me hope, though. They are so passionate about what is happening in our world right now. And, they can vote in November!!!!
It has been a sad week and yet, in many ways an inspiring time as well. In my daughters town they held an 8 min and 49 second kneeling vigil in hon of George Floyd and my 2, 8 and 6 year old granddaughters asked questions. When my daughter explained, the 8 year old said she didn't understand why the color of someones face would make people treat them differently - if an 8 year old understands this why is it such a huge problem - not a difficult premise. The 6 year old asked if (Floyd) had kids and who would take care of them now -
For me, as a senior, it's such a any concept yet, I grew up in an always Democratic family, in MA where the Kennedys did so much, but, my (2) elderly aunts, 80ish when Obama was running, they refused to vote for President, simply because he was black - I was so hurt by their stance.
Diane, I agree. With all the anger and sadness, there is a glimpse of hope and promise. I recently watched a video about children and racism and may share that on my blog later this next week. Gosh, your 6 year old grandchild's question about who would care for Floyd's children breaks my heart. If we're all feeling angry, sad, stressed and worried, I can only imagine how small children and teens are feeling. :( What a shame that your aunts were so closed-minded about Obama. I would have felt hurt (and angry), too.
Great song. I actually saw Crosby, Stills and Nash in concert in the 1980's. One of the big bands to see in a lifetimes. Love the music.
All we can do is strive forward and do our best, we are all in this human race together and need to treat one another well. The hate breaks my heart but I truly believe there are more good people in this world than the baddies.
Tina, we saw CSN in Omaha in the early 90s. It was such a great concert! Another song that has been running through my head this week is Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth."
This is such a painful time, and yet, I feel a ray of hope when I see people gathering together to protest this most recent tragedy of racism. None of us can allow this issue to be swept under the rug ever again. November can't get here soon enough for me. Until then, we need to keep speaking up and actively protesting what is wrong and hurtful. It's not only the children who need to be taught, but many adults, as well.
Laurel, I too feel hopeful, especially when I read posts on IG and FB from the younger generation who are about to vote for the first time in their lives.
It's one of my all-time favorite songs, Meredith. I bought a t-shirt at a CSN (no Young) concert in the early 90s. I wore it for YEARS until it fell apart. :(
A powerful video, Les. A very rough week. Much to think about, pray about, ponder. And I'll be doing that.

DeleteMy first husband and I sang this ALL THE TIME, and I requested it at my retirement party from teaching. Such a great song...
