20 Books of Summer Results

I'm pretty pleased with my results for the summer reading challenge, especially since we were busy with visitors and traveling. I selected 21 books for the challenge and read 8, abandoned 6 and left 7 in my stacks. Below are links to my reviews for the books that I finished.

Completed

Abandoned

    1. Thanks, Jenclair. It was a fun challenge. Now on to R.I.P. XVI!

  3. That was a good Les. I didn't read all 20 either and had (1) DNF. I have less patience with books that don't engage me these days. Now for a few good mysteries or thrillers.

    1. I knew I wouldn't come near reading all 21 books, Diane, but it was fun to knock a bunch off my shelves. I'm actually beginning to see some space between books in the bookcase!

  4. Good job on the challenge and I am glad to see that you are willing to abandon a book if it isn't working for you. I always feel guilty doing that but have gotten better in the past few years at realizing that not every book is for me.

    1. Thanks, Helen. With so many books on my TBR shelves, as well as lists and lists of books that I want to read, I have no problem giving up on those that don't appeal to me after several chapters. Some of the books have been on my shelves for years and my taste has changed over time.

  5. You did well and got to many of the ones you wanted. I think we both completed 8 of our picks this summer. I might get to some of my remainders still .... we'll see.

    1. I'm quite pleased with my results, Susan. I'm sure I'll eventually get to those that I didn't read since they all appeal to me right now. Just ran out of time and wanted to move on to the RIP selections.

  6. Sounds like a successful summer of reading along with traveling and visits with friends! I also occasionally abandon books, but as I mentioned to you about Anxious People, I picked it up again and ended up liking it a lot.

I just finished The Midnight Library. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it. Oh, and I'm in the middle of Miss Benson's Beetle—it's quirky and engaging, and so far, I'm loving it! (If you need something else to add to your list, LOL!)

    1. Laurel, it's been a wonderful summer in spite of Covid worries and lack of warm temps on the coast. I'm looking forward to reading The Midnight Library, as well as all the other books I didn't get to for this challenge. I have Miss Benson's Beetle on my TBR list and am glad to hear that you're enjoying it! Thanks for the recommendation. :)

  7. You did great with this! Always so nice to make a dent in the shelf sitters right? I'm so behind on blog visiting so I missed your review of Anxious People. That was my first Frederik Backman book and I was disappointed but I will definitely look for some of his other titles to check out.

    1. I love making big dents in my stacks, Iliana. I often wonder if it's possible to read everything I own before buying more and while I still add to the shelves, I'm definitely reading more of those shelf sitters.

Don't give up on Backman. I highly recommend Bear Town and A Man Called Ove.

  9. You did well and you even shared your update (unlike me). I think I read all of the books I listed except for one.
