A Month in Summary - June 2023

Silverhorn Creek Campground
Banff National Park
June 2023

This is a very brief post, as we are traveling through the Canadian Rockies (in Canada since June 4th, and on the road since May 29th), and I haven't done much in the way of reading. How could I with views like the one above? We've been surrounded by spectacular mountains, glaciers, rivers, lakes, and creeks that literally take my breath away. We've camped in national parks, provincial parks, RV resorts, one KOA, two wineries, two golf courses, and two breweries. We've seen mountain goats, black bears, bighorn sheep, mule and white tail deer, coyote, elk, lots of magpies, and one lynx.

Today is Canada Day (July 1st) and we are wrapping up our time in Canada, heading back to the U.S. on the Fourth of July. For those of you who don't know, I was born in Ottawa, but moved to the States when I was a little girl. On our trip, we've learned all about Loonies and Toonies, discovered Poutine (which we love), sampled coffee & donuts at Tim Horton's (disappointing), and have yet to see a moose. We've gone from 36 degrees & snow to heat & humidity similar to that of summers in Nebraska. However, it's a stunningly beautiful country. One month isn't enough! We need more time to master the metric system. (I received a blank stare at a meat counter when ordering a pound of sliced deli meat.)
It's been an amazing road trip and I look forward to sharing more details and photos in the coming months. Stay tuned!

    1. Helen, we are enjoying ourselves immensely! Yes, we would love to return and see parts that we've missed, as well as re-visiting some that are now favorites. I'm so glad we had an entire month in the country!

  3. You did & saw a lot! I'm impressed by your trip and experience. I hope you will return someday. And I'm happy for your appreciation of Canada and things here. We both are a bit Canadian and a lot U.S. ha. I still use miles here and Fahrenheit too. But I know kilometers and Celsius - I'm just more comfortable with the former ...

    1. Susan, we left Canada on Tuesday (July 4th) and it was bittersweet. We had such a great time (four weeks!), but it's time to head home. We'll get back tomorrow afternoon. On the plus side, I will start planning our September trip to Vancouver Island later next week! We may never go anywhere other than Canada from here on out. :)

  4. What an amazing experience you are having and I don't blame you for being more focused on all of that around you. It's just stunning! I've only been to Vancouver and Victoria but would love to see more of Canada.

    1. Iliana, we got home yesterday and I'm still going through the hundreds of photos I shot. It was a fabulous trip and I'm already missing Canada, although returning to the Oregon coast is pretty special, so I won't complain. We're already talking about another trip in a few months; this time to Vancouver Island. Can't wait, but the planning will take some time and right now all I can think about is laundry, grocery shopping, and cleaning the RV. ;)
