Boise Riverside RV Park - Garden City, Idaho

Glacier National Park Road Trip (Fall 2022)
September 23-25 2022
Challis to Garden City, Idaho
Daily Mileage: 185
Site: Greenbelt #6
Duration: 3 nights
Cost: $51.50/night
Weather: Sunny & hot (72-80 degrees)

This travel day was even more gorgeous than yesterday's. We drove along the Salmon and Payette rivers, which were stunning. The drive was pretty hilly & windy, but we enjoyed ourselves, jotting down state campground information as we drove past, wishing we didn't already have reservations near Boise. We saw several "Game Crossing" and "Big Horn Sheep" signs, but never did see any animals.

Finally some vibrant fall colors!

Gorgeous view of the Sawtooth Mountain Range

We stopped for lunch at Sawtooth Luce's in Stanley. We had the place to ourselves and enjoyed our burgers, but a picnic lunch by the river would have been just as nice, if not better.

We arrived at our RV park late in the afternoon and got all set up only to discover a lot of wasps hanging out by the water hookups. I used some wasp spray, but they were in the grass and congregating around the picnic table, as well. It was pretty hot, so we weren't planning to spend a lot of time outside, but I also didn't want any to get in the RV.

Our dirt site was on a bit of a slope, which took a lot of blocks to get level. The park has full hook-ups, some grass & trees, laundry, showers, a dump station, and a 28-mile long greenbelt trail that leads to downtown Boise. The free WiFi was slow, but we had 4 bars on Verizon and 3-4 bars on T-Mobile.

Bike/Walking path behind RV park

Boise Riverside RV Park turned out to be one of our least favorite places to stay on this trip. It's basically a large gravel parking lot and the sites are too close together. There was a lot of dust, and as mentioned, the problem with swarms of wasps. Thankfully, neither of us got stung. I missed having my bike, which would have been great since the trail was right behind us, but I doubt we'll return to this spot. A state campground would be much more desirable.

  1. Even though the RV park wasn't as great as some of the others, at least the area around is so pretty and yes, it would have been great if you'd had your bike! That would have been such a great ride.

  3. When I was in 4th grade, my parents took the whole family on a rafting trip down the Salmon River for like a week. It was wonderful. So unlike my parents who weren't really that outdoorsy. But our guide was wonderful. and we never forgot it.

    1. Susan, I'll bet that rafting trip was great fun! I have a friend who did that in the Grand Canyon (Colorado River??) with her extended family and said it was a blast.
