A Month in Summary - April 2024

Highway 101
South of Port Orford, Oregon
April 2024

We spent three weeks traveling in April, so there's not much to share (other than photos); no visitors, no new puzzles, no new cars... But my reading was really good, if not excellent. The King book was a disappointment, but I LOVED Still Life and Demon Copperhead! All three books were well over 400 pages, which seems to be my thing this year.

Books Read (click on the title for my review):

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver (5/5)

Fairy Tale by Stephen King (2.5/5)

Still Life by Sarah Winman (4.5/5)

Movies & TV Series:

Vera (Season 11) - Another entertaining season.

Travels:

As I mentioned above, we were on the road for three weeks, traveling down Highway 101 to Santa Rosa, then over to the Sacramento area, then north to Dunsmuir, and back up into Oregon. It was a great trip, and as always, we took our time, staying at ten different campgrounds and homes. We got to camp with some friends from our neighborhood, visit one of my aunts, and catch up with some good friends (one of whom I've known since elementary school!). The weather was wonderful, with the exception of some rainy days in Oregon. Typical!

Spotted this HUGE trillium on a hike in Oregon!

    1. Aw, thank you Jenclair! We so enjoy our travels. We're looking forward to a trip up the coast with our friends at the end of the month. We also have a big trip planned for the fall -- Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming - mainly spending most of our time in the Tetons. I can't wait!

  3. I have never seen a trillim so large! Impressive. Love your monthly roundup. I started that book I asked you and JoAnn about, Unsheltered, and I liked the beginning....but the other story line isn't grabbing me. I have such a stack of books to read so, might abandon. I'll let you kow.

    Great travel photos.

    1. It was the largest trillium that I've ever seen, Tina! I think you are responding to Unsheltered the same way JoAnn and I did. Current storyline is more interesting than the historical part. Maybe just read those sections. :)

  4. Your monthly summary posts are always a favorite. I'm surprised you managed to get in three books, especially considering their length! This looks like another excellent trip :)

    1. Thanks, JoAnn! It was a fun trip, and yes, I was also surprised that I got in three hefty books. I'm planning on starting another later in the week (A Little Life). I'm really in the mood for longer books these days.

    2. So many readers love A Little Life, but I haven't worked up the courage to read it... I understand it's a tough one. Maybe you will finally convince me!

    3. I'll keep you posted, JoAnn. Everyone said Demon Copperhead was a tough one, but I thoroughly enjoyed Kingsolver's writing and storytelling. We'll see how I do with A Little Life. I think this is my "tome" era! :)

  5. Wonderful photos & trip! Beautiful country. I need to visit some of those locales. I have not been to many of those places. Next time we'll have to take a route like that. You visit the best places.
I liked both Demon Copperhead and Still Life too ... so I will head to your reviews. I think I read Still Life for my book club. So glad you had a good trip and nice travels.

    1. Thanks, Susan! We've done this trip so many times, but it's fun to revisit locations, as well as catching up with good friends and family. Lots of beauty in this world of ours!

  6. Looks like wonderful times spent with family and friends! Those views are amazing. I'd love to do a road trip along the west coast one day. I really want to read the Barbara Kingsolver book! And, Stephen King is always such a hit or miss for me. I would like to read his latest - Holly, I think? Who knows at this point he may have written 10 other books :) Hope this month has been a great one so far.

    1. It was a wonderful month, Iliana! We really love our road trips and the west coast doesn't disappoint. The Kingsolver book was so good and I find that I'm still thinking about the characters. I have Stephen King's Holly, but haven't gotten to it yet. Soon, I hope.
