Favorite Audios of 2021

Last year I listened to 21 audiobooks (which is half of all of the books I read in 2021), but there were only a few that impressed me. The three books in the top row were my favorites, each of which earned a 5-star rating.

Click here for links to these and other books that I read in 2021.

  1. Great post Les. I loved 28 Summers and Daughters of Erietown on audio. I'd like to try The Most Fun We Ever Had as well.

    1. Thanks, Diane! I've been meaning to share this post for a few weeks, but got distracted by the beautiful weather and yardwork. ;) I first heard about The Most Fun We Ever Had from JoAnn and she loved it. I think it's one you'd enjoy, too.

  2. I haven't read or listened to any of these. Half of your books is a significant chunk! I was closer to 25%.

Falling seems so intense. I don't know if I could read it.

I hope you find even more good audiobooks this year!

    1. Jen, I was shocked to see that half of my books were audios! Falling was intense, but a little predictable, so it made it a little more palatable.

So far this year my audio listening has been only fair. I'm not sure I want to even continue with my current book (Such A Fun Age). Have you read it?

  3. Falling was soooo good! I am not an audio person, but listened to Girl with the Louding Voice and Americanah last year, both of which were excellent and had the same narrator.

    1. Helen, I was captivated by Falling. I've had Girl With the Louding Voice and Americanah on my TBR list since they first came out. I'm glad both audios were good and that you enjoyed them. BTW, it took me a few years to really become an audio person. Now I love them and can't imagine not listening to a good story. Take a peek at some of my previous posts of favorites. There are a lot of great listens out there!

  5. We have similar taste in audiobooks! I loved The Most Fun We Ever Had, 28 Summers, and Daughters of Erietown. A Quiet Life in the Country was a lot of fun, too. I have a feeling I would have enjoyed Young Jane Young more if I'd listened...

    1. JoAnn, I think you recommended all of these books to me, so thank you! Young Jane Young was definitely the case of the audiobook is better than the book, at least from what I could discern on Goodreads. Hearing the voices made a big difference. I think the same is true for Nothing To See Here.

  6. I read Young Jane Young and The Most Fun We Ever Had and really enjoyed both. One of my goals this year is to start listening to audiobooks in addition to reading!

    1. Laurel, they were both unusual, but very enjoyable. Maybe not as good in print as audio, since I really liked the narrator/reader. I can't believe I listened to so many audiobooks this past year! I wonder how many miles I walked while listening.

  7. Many folks including you loved the Claire Lombardo novel which I haven't gotten to yet .... but I still hope to. Seems like it makes for a great audiobook!

    1. Susan, so funny. I had to go back and see what Lombardo wrote! For some reason, her name didn't stick with me when I was listening to the book (or afterwards, obviously). I think the book would be best on audio. I know a few readers who weren't impressed when they read the print edition.
