Canada Road Trip (Summer 2023)
June 3, 2023
Troy to Columbia Falls, Montana
Daily Mileage: 131
Site: Boondocking
Duration: 1 night
Cost: Free (Harvest Host)
Weather: Sunny (70s)
Cell Coverage: 1-2 bars Verizon & TMobile
WiFi: Free

Very nice Harvest Host stay near Glacier National Park. A good view of the mountains, but also a junky area of the neighbor's property to the west. I enjoyed the wine tasting with Lou & Shannon, and wound up buying a couple of bottles, as well as some goat milk ice cream, which pairs nicely with the wines. My favorite wine was the 2021 Kokanee Blend, which was excellent!

Got dinner at the food truck, which was unremarkable.

Some road noise in the middle of the night.

Kootenai River Campground (Troy, Montana)

Canada Road Trip (Summer 2023)
June 2, 2023
Spokane, Washington to Troy, Montana
Daily Mileage: 119
Site: 19
Duration: 1 night
Cost: $57
Weather: Sunny (70s)
Cell Coverage: 1-2 bars Verizon & TMobile

Kootenai River Campground is new to us, and we really enjoyed our overnight stay. There are plenty of trees for shade, as well as nice grassy areas between sites. Our pull-thru site felt very spacious. We didn't have a view of the river, but it was just a short walk from the campground. We could easily spend a few days relaxing in this spot before heading to Glacier National Park. Hope to return someday soon!

Missoula, Montana - Daytrip

Glacier National Park Road Trip (Fall 2022)
Missoula Daytrip
September 21, 2022

The weather was perfect for a daytrip to downtown Missoula, which was only ten miles from our campground. We started off with a delicious coffee and danish at Break Espresso. Good thing we don't live in Missoula or I'd go to this cafe EVERY day! I love the exposed brick and the comfortable environment. It's my kind of place.

Yum!!

Once our bellies were full, we wandered around town for a while. I love the artwork on the power boxes. So creative and beautiful.

Missoula County Courthouse

Of course, we had to visit an independent bookstore, which had a great selection, in spite of its small size.

We spotted a Ghostbuster Ectomobile across the street, which drew a lot of attention from passersby.

Delicious sandwiches

Missoula is a nice town and it reminds us of Lincoln with its college vibe and walkable downtown areas.

Jim & Mary's RV Park - Missoula, Montana

Glacier National Park Road Trip (Fall 2022)
September 20-21, 2022
Columbia Falls to Missoula, Montana
Daily Mileage: 135
Site: F10
Duration: 2 nights
Cost: $60/night
Weather: Sunny, windy & warm

We love making new friends while traveling! We met Karen and Bryan (from Vermont) while camping at West Glacier RV Park, and sat around the campfire, swapping stories for five hours one night. Met up again for lunch at Tamarack Brewing Company in Lakeside a week later. Hope our paths cross again!

Yum!

The drive south to Missoula on Hwy. 93 was gorgeous. Flathead Lake (particularly Polson) looks like a great place to visit, if we're ever back in the area.

This rest area reminds me of the Sandhills in Nebraska (without the huge mountain range in the east, of course!).

We had no trouble finding Jim & Mary's RV Park, which is off Hwy. 93 on the outskirts of Missoula. The park is quite lovely with beautiful landscaping throughout. There are tall pine trees, expansive areas of grass, as well as perennial gardens and pots overflowing with annuals. The park offers full hook-ups, spacious level sites, picnic tables, free showers, laundry, and WiFi (which was slow, but we had 4 bars on Verizon and 3 bars on T-Mobile). The interior sites have full shade, which would be nice during the summer heat. We heard a nearby train, but it wasn't too noisy, and the road noise became white noise during the night. We would return to this RV park, if we're in the area again.
